BREAKING: Saudi Supreme Court has set aside the death sentence against Sri Lankan Anojan Sivarasa.

A young Sri Lankan facing execution over a deleted Facebook comment has just been given a second chance at life.

Deputy Foreign Minister Arun Hemachandra announced that the Supreme Court overturned the death penalty ruling on 13 October after sustained diplomatic and legal efforts by the Sri Lankan government.

This is a massive relief for Anojan, his family, and everyone who followed the case. The Sri Lankan side thanked the Saudi government for its cooperation, along with the ambassador, Foreign Ministry officials, the Bureau of Foreign Employment, and both the Sri Lankan and Saudi legal teams.

Further details on his exact legal status and next steps are still pending, but for now the death sentence is off the table.
