I played the first one in 1994 and loved part II and III as well. I was overwhelmed (in a good way) with World of Warcraft when it came out in 2004, it was the best thing ever for an old-school Dungeons & Dragons nerd from the 80s. The world felt so big and vast, so endless. It was pure adventure and exploration. It didn't matter if you were good or bad, there was no min-maxing yet, you would connect with your groups or guild via Skype or Ventrilo (those were the days...) and you would see your character grow, get better, explore new areas and just be fully immersed in the game.

The Burning Crusade (2007) and Wrath of the Lich King (2008) were still great, but the first "pro" guilds would appear, the initial fun would slowly make room to "who's got the best parses?", the game turned more into a job/chore, into the obligation to have the best gear and talent tree, otherwise you'd be laughed at, be seen as a noob.

To me, the last good era of gaming ended with Wrath of the Lich King in 2008. I have not played any game that was released after that year.

Predator (1987) is still one of the coolest action movies ever made. A squad of walking 80s biceps gets hunted by the slickest movie creature of the decade, and every rewatch hits with the same jungle-sweat intensity.

If you think about it, we were truly spoiled. What a time to be a gamer then, witnessing absolute milestones of gaming history.

There was a time when RTS games ruled the gaming world. And while that time might have passed, the memory lives on. Mid/Late 90s up until early 2010s feels like peak RTS game power. I miss it...
