Four Years in, What Are the Research Priorities for Long COVID? A Research Priority‐Setting Partnership Between People With Lived Experience, Carers, Clinicians and Researchers - new paper in Health Expectations journal #longcovid https://t.co/XHIW94o1yq
Just having this discussion with others who say they don’t remember the first 6/12 of COVID.
Workforce are sitting on a raft of unprocessed grief and trauma.
First move should be to ensure basic needs are met but we haven’t even got that far.
This week in key Covid publications:
—Young, healthy individuals with mild cases had objective cognitive deficits at 1-year that they did not perceive
—Older, hospitalized adults with severe Covid had an equivalent of 20 years of decline in cognitive performance at 1-year follow-up
—A nasal vaccine (2 doses) blocked infections for at least 3 months and was effective across 10 different variants
—Reinfections increase the risk of #LongCovid
—mRNA shots don't induce long-lived plasma cells, but we don't know if this is true with other vaccine platforms

A research proposal is your project's blueprint.
But it's more than just simple paperwork.
Your research proposal is more than a formality.
It sets the stage, aligns your ideas, and gets you moving with confidence.
@APAWhatsOn I was wondering if you know what time @ManranOfficial will be on stage at the lemon tree 30th Nov? Torridon are playing in aberdeen on the same night 😢
We are excited to have supported this new study via our #LongCovid Research Consortium. The project team are our incredible @CUBoulderBN colleagues at the University of Colorado Boulder: https://t.co/KqpAQkAbAa
2/ The findings suggest that multiple infectious “hits” (#viral and #bacterial) may amplify long-term neuroinflammatory or neuroimmune symptoms in patients with #LongCovid.
Three years after your initial covid infection, there were still *new* symptoms starting, mostly neurological or GI related. 'That mini stroke that you are having now could be related to that covid infection you had three years ago.' TY @zalaly
Delighted to have been awarded funding to further establish the Scottish Preconception Health Research Network. Looking forward to getting started and working with some wonderful researchers to drive forward preconception health research in Scotland
At Westminster Health Forum Prof. Paul Elliott @ReactStudy:
🔵risk of symptom persistence greater with wild type virus
🔵10% in REACT-LC data had long term symptoms (12 wks), 2/3 lasted 1yr+
🔵those recovered from #LongCovid have worse health than those without LC

👏Congrats! Shivali Lakhani-PhD student @RGUPALS won a £10,000 Health Education Foundation grant to support her studies. Shivali is doing a PhD “Tool kit for healthy pregnancy “ whilst working full time as a pharmacist. @ProfScottC & Dr Aileen Grant are on her supervisory team
COVID’S EFFECT ON THE IMMUNE SYSTEM
🔥 This is an excellent series of graphics from @YaleSPH explaining what we do (and don’t) know about Covid’s effect on the immune system.
Much of this is informed by the work of Dr. Akiko Iwasaki (@VirusesImmunity).

H/t @fitterhappierAJ
Looks like Yale school of public health has finally started to say what I have been repeatedly saying since 2020
1) covid creates longlasting autoimmunity by harming t regs
2) harms adaptive immunity
3) causes immune dysregulation
4) persists
etc
