“Nice, nice that explains the five concerts you went to last month. Cool, cool” It’s strange how we are all living in very different realities. If we could casually discuss them and uncover them I think we could normalize redistributing power and money more easily.
I wish people could explain the facts of their lives by being like “well I have W.P. (white privilege) G.W. (generational wealth) and no H.S (high salary).” “Oh cool, I have H.S. (high salary)”.
if you can’t tell whether I’m in to you or not here is a quick helpful guide: if I am all over you, I am not into you. if I am terrified of being within a 10 foot vicinity of you, I want you to kiss me so badly that it physically hurts. Hope this helps!
Kneeling for Black lives matter, but funding the police. Clapping for essential workers, but voting down the $15 minimum wage. Talking about supporting working families, but cutting programs for working class people. Always the symbolic gestures, never the material change.
Mass poverty is not some kind of primordial lack; it is the result of an economic system that appropriates resources from the South, pays wages below the cost of subsistence, drains profits, and seeks to militate against attempts at sovereign economic development.
A third school found the remains of Native children buried under their school.
Think about that. Hundreds of bodies of children are being found. That’d be massive news if it wasn’t Native kids. Where is the outrage? Where is the support? Why doesn’t anyone care?
The notion that one’s income reflects their productivity, or the value they contribute to society, is one of the most pernicious fallacies of neoclassical economics.
I would never be caught dead going int a store without a mask but also, I went out to a bar last weekend and sat at the bar near people I don’t know. I am fully vaccinated. A lot of this stuff is performative. A necessary performance but still performative.
the real college experience is realizing like halfway through college that u do not want a career at all and would rather make a comfortable little living in the woods somewhere
India is in the throes of a horrendous COVID surge
Horrendous
They are struggling to get more people vaccinated
We are sitting on 35-40 million doses of Astra Zeneca vaccine Americans will never use
Can we please give or lend them to India? Like may be now?
It'll help. A lot
I used to want to be a tv writer by 30 but now I just want to be a dad in Boulder, Colorado buying craft beer at Safeway while wearing a novelty mask that says “Coronavirus 0/5 Stars Would Not Recommend” and yelling at my horrible sons named Addison, Madison and Badison.
In November the nursing home I work at lost 20 patients to COVID. RIP 💖🙏🏻💖 None of it was ok. No one is disposable. Thinking of those who are grieving friends and family members.
i think a lot of people in the US have a really traumatizing, fucked-up, and detached relationship to learning/reading in general + the carceral and monopolistic chokehold the academy has on knowledge production can explain a lot of the casual and widespread anti-intellectualism
Ehh , long rant but I wish working class jobs paid enough to live off of. And I wish we did not define “success” by power or the size of your paycheck.
I think we should stop describing people as “successful” if they have a high paying job and an “impressive career” until education is actually accessible and equal. That description of success is unattainable to most.
I will finish my degree because I have the opportunity to and I want to not struggle financially. If I end up with a decent sized salary it’s not because I’m special or respectable.
