The NHS is crumbling. Patients are having to wait years for their operations due to a lack of staff.
But did you know that 20,000 NHS doctors are potentially unable to train as consultants & GPs due to government restrictions? That’s 20,000 doctors who could help cut the waiting lists and help the public, but are being deliberately held back from doing so.
This is because the government has restricted speciality training spaces for doctors. @wesstreeting could easily increase these, along with consultants and GP posts, but has only committed to ‘reviewing’ the situation.
A review won’t help those 20,000 doctors who are out of a training job this august. It won’t help the public who are crying out to see a doctor without having to wait years for an appointment.
It beggars belief that we have a shortage of NHS staff, yet we are also not utilising the scarce few we do have.
The public deserve better than this.
So far we have three specialties who have released the number of applicants for this years intake. All of which show an example trending towards exponential growth.
This cannot continue and needs immediate intervention.
@PasstheMSRA I can't find a way to contact you through the website, but I am unable to access all the content I have paid form. Please can you contact me to sort out the issue?
@LawrenceDunhill Forget the story. We need accurate, up to date medical records accessible across all providers. I want to hear the story fresh, but I don't want to repeat tests, scans, referrals, and I don't want to have to ring your great niece's boyfriends neighbor for a list of reg-meds!
@matthewcrosby@RadioX @EdGambleComedy @Vinay_K_Joshi I had a pair of school shoes as a 5-year-old I was terrified of. Mum had bought me shiny black shoes with a little cat-face on - they even had a row of sparkly gems as the cat's collar. Mum eventually found out that I had mistaken said gems for a set of vicious cat teeth...
@zackferguson I'm a Gen Surg FY1 have NO IDEA if I'm any good at my job, or if I am, what bits I'm good at and what bits need work. To be given positive feedback would mean the world and to be given it about something specific would be even better ☺️
There were so many times when I didn't think I'd make it, but here we are.

Staying goodbye to @UniofOxford, after 7 years at Corpus Christi, with a cheeky stop off at Wycliffe Hall.
(Oh, if 9 year old me could see me now!)
@smorgasbored444 @becca_kate_ @Dr_LauraW I'm currently in an internal debate about how to introduce myself to patients when I start work. I think "Dr McKinlay" rather than "Ailsa, one of the doctors" is not the done thing, but patients and staff need to know who is who for patient safety!
