As someone diagnosed as #dyslexic as an adult, this chimes with my feelings. ‘[d]yslexia [has] caused me to distrust my intelligence which in turn [has] resulted in a lack of faith in my opinion [...] My lack of trust in my judgement [comes] from a fear of making mistakes.’
C.E.W. Bean was a dogged researcher. Reading through correspondence between him and interested parties regarding the downing of Richthofen, including Captain Roy Brown (who was one of the claimants for downing Richthofen) and the Official Historian of the RAF in #WW1, H.A. Jones.
Being an independent scholar can be a lonely business, but recent correspondence with friends and colleagues around the globe reminds me that, if they can, they will help if you ask (nicely!).
