Striving to regain some of my neighbourhood’s peace and tranquility which was lost when NavCanada created concentrated aircraft corridors above us in 2014.
The Harvard School of Public Health and Boston University conducted a study on the health impacts of aviation noise. Here are some of their findings.
Presented at the UC Davis ANE Symposium.
WCalgary doesn’t have a loud enough voice, the right postal code nor support of elected officials to enact changes. We are @FlyYYC dumping grounds for arrivals/departs any time of day. What’s happened to noise monitor data? TRAN suggestions? @navcanada@RonLiepert@OmarAlghabra
@Holland84112168 @FlyYYC@navcanada PBN destroys neighbourhoods. Hundreds of low, loud aircraft on a narrow corridor create a noise sewer which affects health.
As if it’s not noisy enough under our concentrated corridor we have a low noisy small plane surveying or whatnot. Why this frequent surveying of established urban area? Stupid useless & no respite for overflown. @FlyYYC @info_WCATC
@carneiromiranda Yrs of dialogue w all levels of govt w no results. Govt report on airport noise w recommended changes ignored. Overflown often treated like deranged idiots despite proven health detriment of constant noise. Solution? Move!
We’re back to planes 2 mins apart cross-crossing my community in W Calgary with helicopters too. Why this constant noise pollution? Could airport authority & airlines not show some respect for wellbeing of overflown in return to old “normal.”
@lekivetz2@WestJet@AirCanada@FlyYYC@OmarAlghabra@navcanada Back to the old normal this morning with planes 2 mins apart. It’s criminal that @navcanada created concentrated corridor over our formerly quiet neighborhood distant from @FlyYYC without notice or consultation. Why not return to a better normal?
Less aviation during the global lockdown had a positive impact on the climate 🛬🔽
New research confirms what we have been saying for a long time: air traffic heats up the climate more than its CO2 alone.

@carneiromiranda I’m a 40 min. expressway drive from airport. In 2014 they created major corridor over my neighborhood. Nightmare. Covid has lessened airplane volume but helicopters now far more frequent.
Another morning dog walk marred by low loud circling helicopter and small private plane which appears to be surveying. Skies over yyc are a free for all. Why do so many thousands of us on ground have to endure this daily? What about our right to quiet and health?
@righttoquiet Really? Calgary has all these noise regs? I’ve lived in both Calgary and Toronto and “cowtown” is a seriously noisy city—motorcycles, souped up cars and trucks, leaf and snow blowers—you name it, at all hours. Worst noise is helicopters and planes.
Lovely morning in yyc to do yard work but jets and helicopter overhead, leaf blower across street. Nextdoor neighbour has fired up meat smoker. So unbearably noisy & stinky. This needs to end!
