On this #WorldFoodSafetyDay, we are reminded of the significance of safe food in eliminating foodborne diseases, protecting public health, and sustainable development. Most of the foodborne illnesses are preventable through stronger systems relying on data driven action, collective commitment and collaboration across all sectors of our society.
We remain firmly committed to ensuring that all food consumed in our nation is safe, nutritious, and trustworthy. Key government initiatives include the formulation of regulations under the Food Safety Act, strengthening border food control measures, and building national technical capacity for food safety monitoring and testing.
Today, we also stand in solidarity with communities in crises, including Gaza, where unsafe food and contaminated water deepen human suffering. I urge the international community to work together to address these challenges. Through stronger cooperation and adherence to international standards, we can build a safer future for all.
On this World Environment Day 2026, we reaffirm our commitment to using our natural resources wisely and sustainably for the benefit of present and future generations.
Our oceans, fisheries, land, and ecosystems are the foundation of our nation’s prosperity. Through responsible management, innovation, and sustainable practices, we can strengthen our economy while preserving the resources that sustain it.
Together, let us build a more resilient, resource-efficient, and sustainable Maldives.
High commissioner Dr. Md. Nazmul Islam paid a courtesy call on Minister @Shiyamaldives yesterday. Discussions focused on strengthening cooperation and exchange of knowledge between the Maldives and Bangladesh, particularly in the fields of fisheries and agriculture.
Both sides explored opportunities for collaboration, capacity building, and working together to further enhance sustainable development in these vital sectors.

MSPEA warmly welcomes the decision to include Maldivian tuna products in the latest tariff suspension measures announced under the updated UK Trade Tariff guidance on Duty Suspensions and Autonomous Tariff Quotas. @MFAORmv
@rsh1Mohamed@MoFAmv@MoEDmv@IruthishamAdam Most good things in life are a team effort, whether that is formalised or not. The informal and unstructured team that made this happen included many interlocutors from Maldives, principally @MMuizzu and @IruthishamAdam, who consistently raised the issue with us.
Great news for British shoppers and Maldivian fishermen. The UK is suspending tariffs on tuna, helping bring prices down in the UK while opening better market access for Maldivian tuna. A win for affordability and sustainable tuna, caught one fish at a time. 🎣🐟

Thrilled to welcome the UK's decision to suspend tariffs on Maldivian tuna - effective today! This is a direct win for our fishers, their families, island communities and our processors who have long championed one-by-one fishing as the gold standard of sustainability. Maldivian tuna doesn't just feed the world, it does so responsibly, one fish at a time. Today, that commitment gets the recognition it deserves in one of our most important markets.
Deep gratitude to HE President Dr. @Mmuizzu for his unwavering leadership in elevating our fisheries sector on the global stage. I would also like to thank all stakeholders including our industry partners both in Maldives and UK for the continuous effort in making this a reality. 🇲🇻🇬🇧
