West Bengal is witnessing the steady erosion of constitutional governance and an alarming descent into a police state. When the power of the State operates without constitutional restraint, the judiciary becomes the last line of defence.

If judicial intervention does not come when fundamental rights are being undermined, what is at stake is no longer merely the liberty of individuals. It is the survival of democracy itself.

This is what the BJP has done to my party office in the early hours of this morning.

Will the Governor of WB act? Will the Union Home Minister act? Will the PMO act? Or will they continue to look the other way?

It is high time the judiciary, particularly the Calcutta High Court, takes serious note of what is happening and acts to uphold the rule of law in West Bengal.

And one simple question for Suvendu Adhikari: why are you so scared of the Trinamool Congress and of me that you have to resort to this kind of intimidation?

If this is how the Opposition is to be treated in West Bengal, through violence, vandalism and intimidation, then the Chief Minister have no moral authority to remain in office. He must resign.

This is not democracy. This is political thuggery.

Shame on those responsible. And shame on those who choose to remain silent.

Every act like this will be remembered. Every attack, every act of intimidation, every abuse of power. Nothing will be forgotten.

Vandalism. Violence. Lawlessness.

Both my offices( Amtala and Camac street) have been vandalised and ransacked in the last one month.

The POLICE and BJP goons seem to fear NEITHER THE LAW NOR THE JUDICIARY.

This is no longer mere lawlessness. This is open defiance of the rule of law.

If this does not shake the conscience of the judiciary, what will?

Shame on the cowardly CM @SuvenduWB , @AmitShah , @ombirlakota and @narendramodi . This is how the Opposition is being treated in India today @IPUparliament .

Will the Judiciary finally intervene to uphold the rule of law, protect constitutional rights and ensure that the authority of the Constitution is not reduced to a mere formality ?

Police in uniform barged into our office and started pushing staff, heckling them, assaulting them and threatening them.

Is this Democracy?
Is this good governance?

What Kolkata Police did today is deeply disturbing. The use of State machinery raises serious questions about legality, due process and abuse of power.

If the police are being used at the behest of the @BJP4Bengal government to target political opponents, the courts must intervene.

Democracy cannot survive when State power becomes an instrument of political intimidation.

সকলকে স্বাধীনতা দিবসের শুভেচ্ছা।
তপশিয়া ভবনে তৃণমূল কংগ্রেসের কর্মসূচি। ছিলেন দোলা, বৈশ্বানর, অর্ণব, কৃষ্ণপ্রতাপ, প্রিয়াঙ্কা, উপাসনা প্রমুখ। তারপর বেলেঘাটা ঢোকার সময়ে দেখি মেট্রোপলিটন অফিসে বালিশ-তৃণমূল পতাকা তুলছে। ছটা-আটটা লোক। আচমকা গাড়ি থেকে নেমে ঢুকে গেছি। কারণ আমার নির্বাচনী এলাকা। ওঁরা বিজেপির মদতে চললেও মুখে তৃণমূল। আমি পতাকা তোলার অনুষ্ঠানে ঢোকায় ওঁরা হতবাক।
ফুল দিয়েছি বেদীতে।
বক্তৃতায় বলেছি- 1) মমতাদির নেতৃত্বেই তৃণমূল লড়ছে, লড়বে। 2) বিজেপি দেশকে ডোবাচ্ছে। স্বাধীন দেশকে শেষ করছে। 3) অনন্ত মহারাজের গ্রেপ্তার চাই।
এরপর বলেছি দিদির বই, কাগজপত্র ফেরত দিতে হবে।
তখন ওঁরা সবার সামনে বলেছেন সব দিয়ে দেবেন।
