A dog used to follow pilgrims to a Hindu religious site in Sri Lanka, and videos of it were shared warmly in Sri Lankan Hindu circles.
In late June, offended by the videos, a Muslim man went to the pilgrimage site, located the dog, kicked it, and uploaded the video, sparking outrage. During one such argument, a Sri Lankan Muslim wrote a derogatory post against the Hindu deity.
Anojan Sivarasa, a Sri Lankan Hindu working as a laborer in Saudi Arabia, didn't like the comment and responded with a reply that was allegedly derogatory to the Prophet.
Anojan's well-wisher immediately warned him. He took down the comment and issued a video apology within five minutes in which he said he was responding to an insult to his faith. However, it was too late. Anojan's fellow Sri Lankan Muslims had already taken a screenshot and emailed it to his employer in Saudi Arabia. His employer promptly reported it to the authorities, who arrested Anojan and put him on trial. He has been sentenced to death.
Saudi Arabia rarely reverses a decision once it has made one, but there should be global outrage over this. Blasphemy laws or whatever, the man was only responding to an insult to his faith, deleted the comment, and issued an apology within minutes, yet he will still have to pay with his life while those who provoked him are rejoicing in Sri Lanka. This is unacceptable. Anyone calling themselves a free speech supporter and not opposing this is a hypocrite of the highest order.
If Rahul Gandhi really wants to prove that Modi is the most unknowledgeable and dumb politician, then all he need to do is remain silent.
Because whenever he chooses to speak, he proves the otherwise.

Video from near Badrinath, Chamoli, Uttarakhand.
Look at this place first. A natural waterfall, clear water rushing down the rocks, mountains all around. People travel thousands of kilometres just to see something like this.
Now look at what happened. A bus driver pulled over, washed his bus right in the waterfall, threw empty water bottles into it, and drove off. Another tourist caught it on camera.
He could have kept those bottles in the bus and thrown them in a dustbin later. It would have cost him nothing. He just didn’t care.
And he’s not the only one. Every season, the roads to our dhams fill up with plastic and waste, left behind by people who come to these hills to pray.
We love talking about Japan’s cleanliness. But it isn’t magic. In Japan, children clean their own classrooms and toilets from a young age. Nobody does it for them. Littering is seen as disrespect to everyone around you, so even with very few public dustbins, people simply carry their trash home.
In India, we keep our homes spotless and treat everything outside as nobody’s problem. The street, the river, the mountain. We still think cleaning is someone else’s job. Fines exist only on paper. And when there’s no dustbin in sight, we use that as an excuse instead of carrying our waste with us.
Civic sense isn’t in anyone’s DNA. Indore has shown that a city in India can stay clean year after year when people take pride in it and rules are actually enforced.
The waterfall near Badrinath didn’t need a dustbin. It needed someone who cared enough not to throw that bottle.
Another heroine returns with pride but all ALONE . She doesn’t need paid photographers. The world is her stage and she is the star. Welcome Sanju Devi.

Indian snacks in Canada are... different.
In a good way.
Canada is enforcing a new policy where packaged foods high in saturated fats, sugars, and sodium need unavoidable front-of-package labels disclosing their composition.
Similar to cigarettes.
When I returned to India I couldn't help but miss these labels. During my month in Canada, these labels were the difference between me impulsively picking an unhealthy snack up off the shelf and leaving it there. The label is essentially the government saying, "This food is bad for you. It is linked to chronic diseases. Eat it at your own risk." Given the abundance of healthier options that didn't have these labels (because they weren't high in sat fat, sugars, or sodium), I'd often take a step or two down the aisle and purchase a similar but healthier product in the same category. Easy.
I wish FSSAI would implement something similar in India, so that Indian consumers can make healthier and more informed decisions without having to parse complex back-of-package nutrition labels.
