I wrote on expectation of the India USA trade deal last year. I will express an opinion once the deal is signed.
From publicly available sources my reading;
My worry then was on dairy (seems to be fully addressed) & accepting USA standards, regulations & data laws (seems to be worrisome).
The govt made a mistake by insisting we aren't being bullied (we are) & those opposed to the govt will oppose - irrespective of what the deal will entail - so can not take them seriously.
Unlike what the govt or the opposition say - policies are not black & white - most of it is grey matter. We tend to pick the parts that suit our stated positions.
From Kinnows to Saffron: Bathinda farmer leads Punjab’s horticulture revolution
Continuing his spirit of innovation, Bhullar recently began experimenting with saffron cultivation under controlled temperature conditions, inspired by the traditional Kashmiri model. His first harvest of saffron is now ready, marking a pioneering step in Punjab’s diversification efforts.

The reality of USA H1B visa is that once an Indian gets a visa and settles in USA - in their lifetime there will be more outbound remittances for that family from India to USA than they will send to India.
The data does not capture it, as money is sent by illegal / hawala means - transactions. Mostly the money is generated by selling family property in India.
To say such a moves impacts trade negotiations is wrong, just as is for the opposition to make it out as a sign of Modi weakness. The new immigration rule applies to all immigrants and USA can decide who it allows to into USA.
Why should we be bothered about changes in USA visa condition ? What should bother us is that we as a nation haven’t been able to create a system that doesn’t lead to this brain drain and rush for immigration from India. Let’s resolve to ask the right questions.

A sequence of inventions has made humanity dumber.
Maths skills to calculators
Memory to cell phones storing phone numbers & Google.
Navigation to Google Maps.
Social media broke our concentration & reading habits.
In 1990s, the decades-long international rise in IQs began going into reverse. The average person's ability to reason and solve problems peaked in early 2010s & has been declining since, especially in rich-countries. This happened before AI tools like OpenAI & ChatGPT came in 2022.
Farmers should understand & appreciate that @PMOIndia is fighting to save Indian farmers - that’s the real story. The moment India refused to allow US agricultural imports - Trump ramped up the Russian oil import tariff bogey to pressurise India into a trade deal of his choice.
@realDonaldTrump is not done yet, I expect more steps to embarrass @narendramodi personally.
Seems, a US - China trade deal is imminent, & therefore Trump thinks he no more needs India. Maybe dumping India is thrown in as a sweetener for the China deal.
This will set a chain reaction like cooling off of India China relations.
China and the Indian opposition must be elated by the developments.
The opposition will use it to bash Modi & his personal image of strongman. Trump banks on it as a part of his strategy. Interesting times for BJP.
Seminar on
INDIA – USA TRADE DEAL
1st Aug 2025, New Delhi.
How does signing a trade deal or not signing one impact India? Concessions & compromises have consequences – come to understand the contentious points.
Seating available on first-come-first-basis.
States Like Haryana and Punjab have announced strict punishment for marketing of fake & substandard seeds.
The question is in the last 3 yrs how many have been convicted in the state for such offences? (Has there been even one). If not, then the where does the question arise of quantum of punishment - Why are Punjab farmer unions not asking the right questions?

Likewise:
If India does not sign a trade deal with USA - India’s shrimp export will be decimated. In any trade deal some farmers will benefit & others will lose out depending on the crop & the deal.
If we don’t get a deal we still lose out & is not a victory as many may project. Inspite of most things being favourable Indian farmers are uncompetitive today, & it’s because the establishment let us farmers down.
We oppose the withdrawal by @NITIAayog of its working paper on India-US trade titled ‘Promoting India-US Agricultural Trade under the new US Trade Regime’
A working paper should incite debate but should not have been withdrawn under duress of some farmer groups or opposition parties. The fact is concessions will have to be made and the only question is where do we draw the line – what is the least bad trade deal we can get.

A big trade deal between India and the USA seems eminent - each country is expected to claim it win. BUT..
If Indian farmer's get a raw deal - the failure will not only be of the ministry of agriculture not asserting itself, or commerce ministry's lack of capacity but more of the failure of the Ministry of foreign affairs. A US-India trade deal is also about USA's need for a Geopolitical ally & our ability to capitalize on that.
I for one am optimistic about positive outcomes.
Punjab’s identity under threat from outsiders ? Respect your enthusiasm but this is misplaced, highly isolationist & self defeating. Punjab needs a better strategy than look inwards. I sense your frustration as you see Punjab lose the plot. You as a politician are part of the system that created the problem & are expected to offer better solutions.
The Indus Water Treaty with Pakistan if scrapped could provide water enough to end the water sharing dispute between Punjab, Rajasthan & Haryana + more.
It may have implications of water availability & access in the Brahmaputra basin in NE India vis-a-vis China. My take is China will not stop either way - they will take what they want when they can.
5 decades back, when I was a kid, on my 1st camel ride (which I had with another kid) on the farm - we urged the camel to speed up & both fell off the galloping camel. Later the kid became my brother in law. Life is great. 😊
Whether the security of Bikram Singh Majithia has been removed for political reasons is a matter of debate for another day, but I would like to underscore to Bhagwant Mann govt that personal whims, fancies and political vendetta must never dictate such rash decisions. We all have earlier witnessed incidents following removal of security by this govt amidst much fanfare from
Sidhu Moosewala.
The CM must learn from his mistakes and keep politics aside and let law take its own course.Settling personal scores by withdrawing security of a leader belittles the CM's Chair, if the CM cares.

2026 has been declared by the United Nations General Assembly as the International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists. What will UN do?
Irrigation canals changed the rangelands into farming lands destroying livelihoods.
