Saqer Hussein, 19, is a university student pursuing a career in dentistry, having graduated from high school in 2025 with an 89.4% average in the science stream. He is studying at Al-Azhar University and needs to cover annual tuition of $2,040, paid in four instalments of $510 each. Since October 2023, his family has been displaced around 11 times and now lives in three rented tents shared by 14 relatives. Saqer lives with his parents and three married siblings. Before the genocide, the family supported themselves through their supermarket, but they have since lost that source of income. His mother lives with high blood pressure and diabetes and requires about $60 in medication each month. There has been no soup kitchen in their encampment since January 2026, so the family must buy their own food, and any available food aid requires walking more than 2 km for a small portion. They also pay $430 each month to rent the land where their three tents are located. Saqer's main priority is staying in university so he can complete his studies and become a dentist.
