JUST IN: Ateneo de Davao head coach Jess Evangelio has announced that four players, Macky Peligrino, Matt Cayetano, JM Sanoria, and Rhysus Bajentin, have decommitted from the Ateneo de Manila high school program to transfer to La Salle Zobel for UAAP juniors basketball.

PERMANENT TRIBUTE

Ateneo de Davao University on Thursday has approved the naming of its Senior High School Covered Courts as the Rene “Bobet” Baterbonia Covered Courts, following a Board of Trustees resolution.

In University Memorandum No. 2026-0052, dated June 18, 2026, the administration said the decision formalizes a promise made to the family during his wake Mass on June 14. The university said the courts, where Baterbonia “grew into the athlete and person we came to know,” will now carry his name as a lasting tribute for future generations.

The university will install signage and hold a dedication ceremony, with details to be announced later, and urged the community to keep Baterbonia and his family in their prayers.

BLACK-BAND PROTEST

Graduating students of Ateneo de Manila University are set to wear black bands during commencement rites from June 19 to 21 and join a walkout on Friday, June 19, in solidarity with the families of Rene Baterbonia and Divine Adili, whose deaths have sparked calls for transparency, accountability and justice.

In a statement posted Thursday, June 18, the Ateneo Seniors’ Alliance urged members of the Class of 2026 to wear black bands on their right wrists and join a community walkout after the commencement rites, saying the community “cannot act as if everything is normal” amid lingering questions over the university’s response to the tragedy.

Earlier, the Sanggunian ng mga Mag-aaral ng mga Paaralang Loyola had also called for a June 19 walkout, urging students, faculty and staff to demand justice, accountability and clarity from the administration.
