1. As Modi becomes India’s longest-serving continuously elected prime minister, #CutTheClutter looks at where BJP stands with 17 CMs & what it did to reach this place. The episode also looks at how the numbers stack up in both Houses of Parliament.

2. The emphasis is on ‘continuously’ and ‘elected’ because if you drop these 2, you get into historical debates since Nehru was prime minister for almost 5 years before he got elected the first time & Indira Gandhi had a longer tenure, but that was broken by the Janata Party interregnum.

3. In these 12 years, Modi has suffered 3 setbacks, each of which could have curtailed his tenure:
·        The 2017 Gujarat election: Patidar agitation + united opposition put BJP under pressure. Modi saw the crisis & in last few days addressed 28 rallies & somehow pulled that election back
·        Next was in 2018, with the elections in Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh & MP. The BJP lost all 3.
·        The third setback was, in a way, the most significant — the 2024 Lok Sabha election. All the talk was of 400 paar, but BJP ended up with 240. If it was 15-20 less, all bets could have been off since INDIA alliance was at 234.

4. Now, within 2 years of being reduced to 240, the BJP is turning India into a single-party state. What do we mean by a single-party state? I would say the definition is when a party has a 2/3rd majority in both Houses of Parliament & it controls, either directly or indirectly, at least 2/3rd of India’s 28 states & 8 UTs. Where does BJP stand? It has 17 CMs + 5 ally CMs, so, well past the 2/3rd mark.

5. So, what has BJP done to get to this status despite having 240 seats in Lok Sabha? From Day 1, they started acting like a majority govt, & were very generous with their allies. BJP has also used the alliance method (Andhra) or Operation Lotus — exploiting weaknesses in regional parties that depend heavily on one family, one leader, or one power centre. (TMC, Shiv Sena, NCP).

6. The BJP’s project is to get a 2/3rd majority in both Lok Sabha & Rajya Sabha to achieve its 2 remaining big ideological objectives. How will it do that? What’s the breakdown of numbers?

रास्ते में एक बुरी तरह Injured मिला।

सब कुछ छोड़कर उसकी जान बचाई।

गाड़ी में बिठाकर अस्पताल पहुंचाया।

हर सेवा से ऊपर मनुष्यता की सेवा को रखा।

सारे अधिकारी एक्शन में आए।

अस्पताल पर एफआईआर हुई।

एक माँ के ज़ख़्मों पर, एक बेटे के भग्न कलेजे पर, कुछ हद तक सही, मरहम लगा।

हैरानी तो तब हुई जब कानपुर पुलिस कमिश्नर ने ITBP के ऐसे शानदार कमांडेंट के खिलाफ ITBP DG को शिकायत भेज दी।

कायदे से तो अपनी यूनिट और इंसाफ़ के लिए खड़े होने की खातिर,

ITBP के ऐसे शानदार कमांडेंट को वीरता के पुरुस्कार से नवाज़ा जाना चाहिए।

जीवन का सूत्र बस इतना ही है कि जो अपने जवान का सगा नहीं होगा,

वो देश और मातृभूमि का क्या खाक सगा होगा!!
