It's becoming an FAQ whenever people discover I write for the Gift of Chess. They ask, "So, you guys organize and play chess, and you write about it. Isn't it?"

The answer:

No. We don't just organize and play... That's too surface. Instead, we pick a simple chess game, unlock its full potential, pull all the pieces out of abstract identities, and confer on them the most relatable identities. With this reinvention, we establish a realistic Renaissance, one that breaks the agelong notion and impression that chess is a sport for a select few.

Furthermore, we widen the acceptability gap, but that's not the ultimate goal. The goal is to transform every chessboard into an apparatus for impact. One with which identity is refigured; sleeping talent is awakened, lost hope is found, little is put under the magnifying glass, and a dampened spirit is reinvigorated. And for the ones severed from the rest of the world, chess is a bridge.

Our target is not rooted solely in distributing a million chessboards. Rather, our unflinching desire is that by receiving a gift of chess, each of the million recipients is inspired enough to empower another life, and through this, no one is ridiculed and forced to accept a small, miserable life.

The gift of chess is not so much about organizing chess contests; instead, it introduces mental inducements that emanate from every move in every chess game. Many call it a game; we say it's consciousness.

While we still do this, we realize the game in our care attains its full potential. And writing the stories of those whose hope chess has rekindled is by far the most delightful and satisfying thing to do.

Through structured chess training, inmates are also being prepared to participate in “Chess for Freedom”, an international competition that brings incarcerated players from different countries together. All days won’t go down as best, but I’ve had several amazing days enough to get me through the bleak, uninspiring and grueling days.

Not all friends will be supportive, appreciative and/or reasonable, but I’ve amazing friends, enough to keep me believing in relationships.

Many are disappointment that sank the boats of days, and numb my spirit, but I’ve had lots of timely and rightly fulfilled promises enough to keep my trust and hope alive. I don’t have all, but I have some that keep me believing I can get more.
