Kamla Persad-Bissessar’s speech at the CARICOM Heads of Gov’t meeting does not reflect the views of right-thinking citizens of Trinidad and Tobago and the wider region. Her remarks fell flat and were, at moments, classless, shameful, and unbecoming of a Prime Minister. #Unfit
Now the bills are growing louder than the song,
And struggle has learned our names.
Every promise made has softly died,
Nobody is winning these UNC games.
They won the power, yes, that’s true
But listen close and see:
When leaders feast on empty tunes,
The people pay the fee.
Because when the UNC won,
Nobody really did.
Not the worker, not the mother,
Not the youth with dreams to live.
Food prices rising,
Taxes biting,
And somehow they still smiling,
Like hardship is the policy they signing.
They promised ease, they promised more,
A life untouched by strain,
No sacrifice, no patience asked,
Just pleasure without pain.
The music played, the crowds swayed,
Hope hummed in every line,
But jingles fade when daylight comes
And truth collects its time.
Imagine giving your vote for a jingle,
that Makamillion probably sat on a toilet and scribbled 🤷🏿♀️
UNC won an election with a jingle,
Sweet like sugar, light like air,
No talk of belts to tighten,
No warning of the weight we’d bear.
Too many people quiet.
Too many people who are known for being vocal about matters concerning this country are quiet.
Well sometimes being silent makes you an accomplice to injustice.
As for me, I will continue to speak out.
