🇵🇸 PALESTINIAN FLAG RAISED OVER EAST HAM TOWN HALL FOR FIRST TIME
The Palestinian flag has been raised over East Ham Town Hall in Newham for the first time following a year-long campaign by local Palestine activists.
The Newham Palestine Solidarity Network described the occasion as a “deeply proud and emotional moment” and said the flag flying above the Town Hall would “carry deep meaning for many people across Newham — particularly Palestinian residents and all those who have stood alongside them for years.”
The group began campaigning for the flag to be raised in October 2025, arguing that if Newham could demonstrate solidarity by flying the Ukrainian flag for more than two years, “Palestine should not be treated differently.”
It said months of “conversations, lobbying, persistence and political pressure” had finally brought about the result.
“Campaigning works. Persistence matters. Political pressure can bring about change,” the group said.
“So today, we are proud to see a campaign we began back in October 2025 become a reality.
“This is about justice. This is about dignity. And this is about standing for peace.”
The Palestinian flag was raised on Tuesday by Newham Mayor Forhad Hussain.
British Muslims gathered in prayer for rain over the weekend as prolonged dry weather and drought conditions continue across England.
Mosques across the UK took part in a National Day of Prayer for Rain on August 16, performing Salat al-Istisqa’, a traditional Islamic prayer offered during periods of drought and water scarcity.
Rain was reported in parts of the UK after yesterday's prayers.
@FormulaRauda O believers! Take neither Jews nor Christians as guardians—they are guardians of each other. Whoever does so will be counted as one of them. Surely Allah does not guide the wrongdoing people. Qur'an 5:51
Mosques across the UK are set to hold special Prayers for Rain (Salat al-Istisqa) on Sunday, as much of the country experiences severe drought.
The prolonged dry conditions are having a significant impact on farmers, wildlife and the environment, while placing increasing pressure on water supplies.
Salat al-Istisqa is a prayer established in the tradition of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), performed by Muslims during periods of drought as they turn to Allah with humility and ask for rain and mercy.
Hafidh Anas Khan, Operations Manager of Darul Ihsaan Mosque in Barking, told ilmfeed:
“Water is something many of us take for granted. Today, as much of the UK experiences severe drought and increasing pressure on our water supplies, Muslims are gathering to do what generations of Muslims before us have done in times of drought: turn to Allah with humility and ask for His mercy."
@SkyNews It's not random it's design. We even know when the next eclipse will happen, that's called order. Order requires intelligence, that intelligence is God.
@NewCrescentSoc Sad to see majority still following Morocco even after they named a motorway after Trump and are part of the Abraham Records.
Sky's couldn't be any clearer this month, will it take years for them to realise the UK is sufficient, just how it took years to change from Saudi?
