Fajr prayer from a mosque in Istanbul, Türkiye. 🕌 I hope you made it for your Fajr prayer today. May Allah accept our prayers and bless our day. Ameen. 🤲
Jibril (عليه السلام) said:
«"If you had seen me when I was taking mud from the sea and stuffing it into Pharaoh's mouth, fearing that the mercy of Allah might reach him."»
This hadith is recorded in Jami' at-Tirmidhi (3107). Imam al-Tirmidhi graded it Hasan (good), and it was later authenticated by scholars such as Al-Albani.
What does this mean?
As Pharaoh was drowning, the Qur'an tells us that he finally declared:
«"I believe that there is no deity except the One in whom the Children of Israel believe, and I am of the Muslims." (Qur'an 10:90)»
But Allah responded:
«"Now? While you had disobeyed before and were among the corrupters?" (Qur'an 10:91)»
The scholars explain that Jibril (عليه السلام) did not think he could prevent Allah's mercy. Rather, he acted out of intense anger toward Pharaoh's arrogance, oppression, and persistent disbelief, fearing Pharaoh would continue uttering words in a last attempt to seek mercy.
Allah's decree had already been made. Once Pharaoh witnessed the certainty of death, the door to repentance had closed. His faith at that moment was no longer accepted.
The lesson: Never delay tawbah (repentance). We do not know when our final moment will come. Allah accepts sincere repentance while the door is still open—not after the reality of death becomes certain.
May Allah grant us sincere tawbah before it is too late. آمين.
