Help us investigate what the Bulawayo City Council is doing to residents.
On 29 July 2026, my vehicle was being driven by my driver, who was on his way to collect a mechanic. Along the way, he picked up a stranded person and later stopped at the corner of 15th Avenue and Fort Street to allow the passenger to disembark. After that, he intended to proceed to Multi Engines to purchase some items requested by the mechanic.
To my surprise, I was later forced to pay a total of USD $200 in fines simply for parking and dropping off a passenger. Council officials also impounded the vehicle and drove it away themselves. Despite this, I was charged an additional USD $60 for towing, even though the vehicle was never towed. I was also charged a USD $10 clamping fee, yet the vehicle was never clamped.
What is even more concerning is that my vehicle sustained a dent while it was in the custody of the City Council. The damage occurred after a council official drove the vehicle and allegedly collided with something.
I visited the Bulawayo Traffic Unit to seek guidance on how to report the matter. I was given the contact details of a supervisor named Mr Dube. When I called him, he instructed me to come to Tower Block. However, upon meeting him, he denied that a City Council driver had damaged my vehicle and claimed that the dent was already there.
I then checked the records from the location where the vehicle was taken. The security personnel confirmed that when the vehicle was received, it had no dents. This directly contradicts the councilโs version of events.
I do not know where to report this matter or seek justice. As citizens, we are increasingly vulnerable when the very authorities entrusted with serving and protecting the public appear to be acting without accountability.
Is this how we are supposed to live in our own country? Being exploited and mistreated by the same council that is meant to serve and protect us?
