*PRESIDENT RAMAPHOSA GRANTS EXTENSION OF MADLANGA COMMISSION REPORT DEADLINE*

President Cyril Ramaphosa has extended the final report deadline of the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry into Criminality, Political Interference, and Corruption in the Criminal Justice System.

The Commission will submit its report on Monday, 16 November 2026, instead of 31 August, as anticipated originally.

The extension granted by the President sets an evidence deadline of Friday, 2 October 2026, and a reporting deadline of Monday, 16 November, to enable the Commission to close off topics it has opened up in the course of hearings to date.

The extension allows the Commission to hear evidence on all of the matters listed in its terms of reference.

Without an extension, the Commission will have to leave large parts of its work unfinished.

President Ramaphosa once again expresses his deepest appreciation for the work conducted by Commission as well as for the manner in which law enforcement agencies are following up testimony emerging from Commission hearings.

SA'S FIRST NO-LAPSE INSURANCE

Metropolitan has launched a new funeral insurance product designed for South Africans with irregular incomes, allowing policyholders to keep their cover even if they miss future payments.

The No-Lapse Funeral Growth Plan targets an estimated 11.9 million people in the foundation market, including informal workers, domestic workers and small business owners.

Customers can make flexible contributions without debit orders and permanently secure their cover after paying a total of R1,500 within the first year.

The mobile-first product is managed through WhatsApp and also rewards referrals with additional cover.

Metropolitan says the initiative aims to improve financial inclusion and reduce policy lapses across South Africa.

Well done to the Reserve Bank team. I watched the live stream from beginning to end. What a fitting tribute to Tito Mboweni. It reflected his character and impact so precisely - cerebral, elegant, dignified and so constructive. I must say though, I chuckled when some of Mboweni's attributes and a list of words that best describe him were read out. All I could think of was how he drowned quality free range chicken and lamb in gallons of water, and to add insult to injury, threw chunks of onions and garlic at them. So my words would have been "awful, stubborn cook."

Oh we miss him. We were so lucky to have The Gov. Thank you for organizing a magnificent lecture in his memory.

Tito Mboweni, Governor No. 8, also served as South Africa’s Minister of Finance and Minister of Labour, and was a leading voice on sound economic policy and building capable institutions.

This year’s lecture will be delivered by Professor Axel A. Weber, former President of the Deutsche Bundesbank and current President of the Center for Financial Studies at Goethe University Frankfurt.
