Today, I joined the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu @jidesanwoolu , at the presentation of ₦3.1 billion in compensation to 331 property owners whose lands and buildings were acquired for critical infrastructure projects across Badagry, Epe, Ikorodu, Igbogbo and Ogba.

As the Lagos State Government continues to deliver the roads and public infrastructure needed to support a growing megacity, we remain equally committed to ensuring that those whose properties are affected are treated with fairness, dignity and respect.

Every compensation claim underwent a thorough verification process in line with established procedures to ensure that all rightful beneficiaries received their entitlements.

While these transformative projects will ultimately benefit millions of Lagosians, we do not take for granted the sacrifices made by those directly impacted.

Our commitment to transparency, accountability and equitable governance remains unwavering. Today’s presentation reflects that commitment and reinforces our resolve to build a Lagos where development is pursued with justice, compassion and responsibility.

President Tinubu announces 26 new appointments

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced 26 new appointments into 10 Federal Government agencies and commissions, with former governor of Ekiti State, Ayo Fayose, emerging as chairman of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), and Major General Junaid Bindawa as chairman of the National Salary and Wages Commission.

Fayose heads the board of REA, with Alhaji Ahmadu Abubakar and Engineer Ilyasu Ibrahim Makinta appointed as members and non-executive directors. The incumbent DG of the agency, Abba Abubakar Aliyu, and three executive directors previously appointed make up the remaining board members.

President Tinubu made eight other appointments to the Wages Commission, along with Maj General Bindawa. Former member of the House of Representatives from Lagos, Olajumoke Okoya-Thomas, is the new secretary of the commission. Dr Ogbole Ene Lilian, Oladele Olatubosun, and Yakubu Umar Barde, representing Benue, Oyo and Kaduna, were appointed as commissioners.

Dr Mai Adamu Yau, from Borno,  Ginika Florence Tor (Enugu), Engineer Lawrence Okoh(Edo) and Bello Morenike Iyabode (Kogi) were appointed as members of the Commission.

Tosin Johnson Adeyanju, who was previously appointed as the Executive Secretary of the National Lottery Trust Fund (NLTF), has now been moved to the Revenue Mobilisation and Fiscal Commission as Secretary.

President Tinubu also appointed Dr Abuh Mohammed as Director-General of the National Population Commission, Dr Akinola Odeyemi as Managing Director of the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading (NBET), and Dr Anthony Inalegwu Godwin as chairman/CEO of the Nigeria Atomic Energy Commission. Engineer Julius Oloro, a former council chairman, is the new CEO of the Kwara-based National Centre for Agricultural Mechanisation(NCAM), replacing Dr A.R. Kamal, who died last January.

President Tinubu constituted the board of the Fiscal Responsibility Commission, with Dr Abdullahi Maikano Saidu as chairman. The board members include Mohammed Asmau, Mohammed Aliyu Makama, Dr Suleiman Gidado, Louis O. Ndukwe, Amaechi Ugwele and Olaniyi Idowu Onikola.

Shuni Muhammad Dahiru is the new executive secretary of the National Commission for Mass Literacy, Adult and Non-Formal Education, replacing Professor Shu'aibu Shehu Aliyu, who was reassigned to the Petroleum Trust Development Fund (PTDF) in April.

To replace Mathias Byuan, the former executive director, finance of the Federal Housing Authority, who resigned to contest the governorship election in Benue, President Tinubu named Gisaor Vincent Iorja. Iorja is an economist, legal scholar, and academic currently serving as the secretary of the Benue State Independent Electoral Commission (BSIEC).

All the appointments take immediate effect.

OPERATION HADIN KAI TROOPS APPREHEND ANOTHER FOREIGN TERRORIST FIGHTER, ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT IN BORNO

Troops of Sector 4 Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), while sustaining aggressive counter-terrorism operations across the North East Theatre, have apprehended another foreign terrorist fighter and an alleged illegal immigrant during a security operation in Lassa, Dille General Area of Askira/Uba Local Government Area, Borno State.

The operation, was carried out by troops of the 115 Task Force Battalion at about 11:48 a.m on 19 July 2026, as part of ongoing intelligence driven operations in the North East Theatre. During the operation, troops arrested one Musa Fashir, 32 years old Sudanese national suspected to be a foreign terrorist fighter and collaborator. Preliminary intelligence indicates that the suspect has established links with terrorist elements, further highlighting attempts by foreign actors to support insurgent activities in the region.

Additionally, troops also apprehended Mary Florence 36 years, who claimed to be an illegal immigrant from Republic of Ghana. The circumstances surrounding her presence in the area, as well as the authenticity of her claims are currently under investigation.

Both suspects are in military custody undergoing preliminary profiling and interrogation to establish their identities, determine the extent of their activities, and ascertain any possible links to terrorist or transnational criminal networks.

The successful arrests further demonstrate the effectiveness of Operation HADIN KAI’s intelligence-driven operations and the vigilance of troops in denying terrorists and their collaborators freedom of action. The operation also highlights the Theatre’s unwavering commitment to disrupting terrorist support networks, preventing the infiltration of foreign fighters, and safeguarding communities across the North East.

Operation HADIN KAI remains resolute in its mandate to neutralise terrorists and dismantle their logistics, financing and support networks. Members of the public are encouraged to sustain their support by providing timely and credible information to security agencies, as collective vigilance remains critical to the restoration of lasting peace and security and stability in the North East.

Road construction and solar street light installation along the Katami Axis of Silame Local Government have reached almost 70% completion, marking another major milestone on the Sokoto–Badagry Superhighway project.

NDLEA intercepts Kano-bound tramadol shipments in Lagos, arrests 80-year-old grandpa
. Nabs businesswoman, Chadian, couple, others in Edo, Kogi, Rivers interdiction operations

Ongoing efforts to dismantle a transnational drug trafficking syndicate smuggling tramadol from Togo, through Benin Republic into Nigeria have yielded another success with the interception of two long trailers used to move One Million Six Hundred and Thirty (1,630,000) pills of tramadol 250mg concealed in fabricated compartments of the trucks across multiple borders into Lagos.
The intelligence-led interdiction operation came barely a week after NDLEA operatives recovered 558,900 pills of the same psychoactive substance from the false bottom compartment of a truck that came into Lagos through the Togo-Benin Republic route.

One of the two trucks already heading to Kano was tracked and located on 2nd July 2026 along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway where NDLEA officers recovered 853,000 pills of tramadol 250mg concealed in a fabricated compartment beneath the cargo floor of the trailer and arrested the 22-year-old driver Jabir Kabiru.
Two days later, 4th July, NDLEA operatives acting on processed intelligence successfully tracked and recovered the second trailer from the Lagos-Ibadan expressway while heading to Kano. A total of 777,000 pills of tramadol 250mg concealed in a fabricated compartment beneath the cargo floor of the truck were evacuated and the 22-year-old driver Muhammed Nuhu arrested.

Investigations revealed that all three trucks and consignments intercepted on 21st June, 2nd July and 4th July belong to the same transnational drug trafficking syndicate operating along the Togo-Benin Republic-Nigeria axis.
Two consignments of Canadian Loud, a synthetic strain of cannabis, with a combined weight of 4.70 kilograms have been intercepted at the import shed of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) Ikeja Lagos. The cargoes which arrived the Lagos airport from Canada in cartons with ‘Odugwu’ boldly written on them came aboard British Airways flight and Ethiopian Airlines flight on 24th June and 3rd July respectfully.
Two cargo agents: Ali Rotimi Samson and Orimolade Oluwagbenga linked to the shipments were initially arrested following which another suspect Edeh Onyeamachi Stanislus who showed up to take delivery of the consignments from a logistics company was also nabbed.

A 44-year-old businesswoman, Chioma Nneka Mokeme who is the actual owner of the consignments was eventually arrested on 7th July, 2026, in collaboration with the Area C Command of the Nigeria Police, Surulere Lagos. Chioma who claimed she is into printing business said her friend Agbons Collins who lives in Canada introduced her into the criminal trade.
Meanwhile, NDLEA operatives in Rivers state have arrested an 80-year-old grandpa, Chika Ugwoji for dealing in illicit substances. The Octogenarian was found in possession of 800 grams of skunk at the time of his arrest at Ahoada on Tuesday 14th July.
In Edo state, a couple: Christian Chukwuka, 32, and Nwanneka Christian, 33, were on Monday 13th July arrested following a raid of their illicit drug warehouse along Sapele road, Benin City where 22 bags of cannabis sativa weighing 219.5kg and compressed blocks of Canadian Loud with a gross weight of 192.67kg were seized.
A Chadian woman, Hajara Abdullahi, 38, and her Nigerian accomplice Abdulkarim Jidda, 44, were nabbed in Lagos following the seizure of 50,000 pills of tramadol 225mg intercepted in Kogi state on Sunday 12th July. The consignment was eventually linked to the two suspects who were traced to Lagos and arrested in Apapa area of the state.

VP Shettima Arrives Freetown For 69th ECOWAS Summit

Vice President Kashim Shettima has arrived in Freetown, Sierra Leone, to represent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, at the 69th Ordinary Session of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

On arrival at the Freetown International Airport, Lungi, Senator Shettima was received by the Vice President of the Republic of Sierra Leone, Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh; Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu; the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye; and the Nigerian High Commissioner to Sierra Leone, Ambassador Ayo Luther-Ogbomode.

Others were the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Rt. Hon. Ekperikpe Ekpo; Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to ECOWAS, Ambassador Olawale Emmanuel Awe; and other officials of the Nigerian High Commission in Sierra Leone.

The Vice President will join Heads of State and Government, ministers, senior officials, regional institutions, and business leaders at the summit taking place today, July 19, 2026, at the Julius Maada Bio International Conference Centre in Freetown.

The meeting is expected to consider major policy decisions and strategic resolutions aimed at strengthening peace and security, democratic governance, regional trade, economic integration, infrastructure development, and sustainable growth across West Africa.

Nigeria is boosting agricultural productivity through the Federal Government's partnership with the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), which has provided improved farm inputs and 22 tricycles to 1,918 farmers in Nasarawa State under the Value Chain Development Programme (VCDP).

The intervention is designed to strengthen rice and cassava production during the 2026 wet farming season by providing certified rice seeds, improved cassava stems, fertilizers, herbicides, and other essential inputs. The programme will support the cultivation of 195 hectares of rice and 140 hectares of cassava while improving market access and increasing farmers' incomes across selected local government areas, including Lafia, Doma, Wamba, Karu, and Nasarawa.

IGP DISU COMMENDS NPF AND OTHER SECURITY FORCES FOR SUCCESSFUL RESCUE OF ABDUCTED OYO PUPILS, HONOURS FALLEN SERGEANT

IGP Tunji Disu at the Force Headquarters, Abuja today, has commended officers of the Nigeria Police Force and other security forces for their professionalism, courage, and seamless collaboration in the successful rescue of teachers and pupils abducted from Oriire School in Oyo State.

The IGP praised the coordinated operation that led to the safe rescue of the victims, describing it as a testament to the effectiveness of inter-agency cooperation in tackling security challenges.

He also paid tribute to Sgt. John Abena, who lost his life during the operation, describing him as a gallant officer who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

Reaffirming the Force’s commitment to the welfare of its personnel, the IGP assured that the Nigeria Police Force would continue to provide necessary support to officers injured in the operation, as well as the families of fallen personnel.
