Amongst of the traits of the people of misguidance is not returning back to the Book of Allah

Shaykh Ṣāliḥ al-Fawzān said:

The people of truth, even if disagreement occurs among them resulting from ijtihād, then they return to the Book of Allah, unlike the people of misguidance, for each one follows his own inclination and does not listen to the other.

Each one wants to be the shaykh and the one who is exalted, because he wants to exalt himself and does not want the truth. For this reason, you find the people of misguidance always in disagreement and always in conflict.

And you find the people of misguidance, and refuge is sought with Allah, this is mentioned in this verse: “and do not follow [other] ways, for you will be separated from His way.” [al-Anʿām: 153]

And the Prophet ﷺ clarified this verse with a tangible clarification: that he ﷺ drew a straight line on the ground, then drew lines on its two sides.

He ﷺ said regarding the straight line: “This is the path of Allah,” and he said regarding these paths: “These are paths; upon each of these paths is a Shayṭān calling the people to it.”
