Congratulations to Nigerian-British journalist Emmanuel Akinwotu, named The New York Times' new West Africa correspondent! Joining from NPR, he returns to the Times, where he once reported as a stringer, and will be based in Lagos 🗞️ @ea_akin https://t.co/VJ1tcMdOOq
Just finished @SimuChigudu’s Chasing Freedom. What a book.
I laughed out loud. I wept. Sometimes I had to simply put it down and sit with what I’d read.
Brave, intimate, beautifully written and brilliantly narrated by Simukai himself on audio.
It will stay with me for a long time.
“It is GOOD like that.”
Thank you, @SimuChigudu, for this extraordinary book.
Just finished reading @SimuChigudu's memoir, 'Chasing Freedom' - tore through it in a few days.
Have not read a book that made me THINK and FEEL as much as this in a long time. A brave, beautiful and bracing work by a brilliant writer not afraid to grapple with complexities and contradictions in personal and political life.
I somehow felt more myself after reading it, better able to understand my own life and world after reading what Simukai shared of his.
@Jason_Brickhill@SimuChigudu A brilliant, deeply moving read. I wept and laughed aloud several times, and found myself stopping often just to think. It will stay with me for a long time.
“It is GOOD like that.”
Thank you, Simukai, for this beautiful, brave book.
Look what just arrived from Inquiring Minds Bookstore! 📚❤️
My copy of Asantewaa, Your Turn Now by @Amabisi. I loved Bisi Adjapon’s previous two books, so I’ve been waiting for this one. Yaa Asantewaa, history, women, courage — I can’t wait to dive in! 🇬🇭
53,840 young people wrote.
53,840 entries to The Queen’s Commonwealth Writing Competition this year.
I had the privilege of serving as one of the judges.
And somewhere in all that reading, I found myself thinking about one question:
What happens to the Ghanaian child who is exceptionally good with words?
Dolly Parton started the Imagination Library in 1995 as a tribute to her father, who couldn't read or write.
In 2018, she explained it was to give kids "early access to books".
Now, over 325 million books have been gifted.
Throwback to the AkooBooks Audio Lounge at #GIBF2025 🎧📚
We won’t be at the @gh_int_bookfair this year, but we’ll be cheering from afar!
Last year, we invited visitors to put on the headphones and experience African stories differently.
The AkooBooks Audio Lounge will be back, maybe sooner at #PaGya!, and definitely at #GIBF2027. 🎧❤️

Join us for the,"Where Stories Begin", panel talking about how stories are born before they become novels or images. They begin with imaginations. The panel brings together disciplines that rarely share a stage to discuss how different artistic forms shape the stories they tell.
