In an interview with Ryan Grim and Murtaza Hussain this morning, Kiros also reflected on what politicized her.

She spoke about her family’s immigration to the U.S. through the Diversity Visa lottery, and watching her parents become American citizens, with her father choosing the Democratic Party because “this was the party that fought for working people… fought for the Civil Rights Act… labor laws.”

She also discussed organizing during the genocide in Ethiopia’s Tigray region, and the article she wrote defending pro-Palestinian student protesters that led to her being fired from her law firm.

News: #Israel deports #Eritrean regime supporter in first-of-its-kind case

Israeli authorities have deported an Eritrean national identified as a supporter of the #Asmara regime, in what local media described as a first-of-its-kind move under the country’s immigration enforcement policy.

According to Ynet News, the Eritrean man, a divorced father, entered Israel illegally in 2011 and had lived there since. He was arrested in April 2025 after police allegedly found a machete in his possession and suspected him of threatening his family.

While in custody, officials determined that he was a supporter of the Eritrean government—an assessment that was forwarded to the interior minister, who approved his removal under Israeli immigration law.

At around 9:00 a.m. on Monday, the Population and Immigration Authority, together with the Enforcement and Foreigners Administration, carried out the deportation operation. The move marks the first time Israel has deported an Eritrean national explicitly identified as a regime supporter.

The deportation route reportedly included stops in #Addis_Abeba and #Kampala before the individual arrived in Asmara, Eritrea’s capital.
