At least 11 Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA) staff, among them Chief Engineer Herbert Ngobi, have been arrested over alleged negligence of duty that led to the vandalism of airport equipment worth Shs3.7 billion.
Works and Transport Minister Fred Byamukama, who ordered the Thursday arrest after inspecting the vandalised equipment, said the suspects would also face terrorism charges.
The covert operation, sanctioned by President Museveni, came about 10 months after copper wires worth Shs600 million belonging to the airport’s approach lighting and cargo lighting systems were vandalised in a security breach.
I extend my heartfelt congratulations to His Majesty William Wilberforce Kadhumbula Gabula Nadiope IV, the Kyabazinga of Busoga, and Her Royal Highness Jovia Mutesi, the Inhebantu of Busoga, upon the joyous birth of their third son, Prince Nadiope Ezra Josiah, born on 1st November 2026.
This wonderful blessing is a moment of great joy not only for the Royal Family but also for the entire Kingdom of Busoga and the people of Uganda. Remarkably, the young Prince shares his birthday with His Majesty the Kyabazinga, making this royal occasion even more special and memorable.
I thank Almighty God for the safe delivery and good health of Her Royal Highness the Inhebantu and the newborn Prince. May the Lord grant the young Prince good health, wisdom, grace and a bright future as he grows under the love, guidance and blessings of his family.
May this new addition to the Royal Family further strengthen the bonds of unity, love and pride among the people of Busoga.
As Scripture reminds us in Psalm 127:3: “Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from Him.”
Long Live the Kyabazinga @KingNadiopeIV ! Long Live Busoga Kingdom!
While addressing the traditional and cultural leaders, I emphasised that our indigenous societies had strong foundations in agriculture, livestock, crafts, medicine and other specialised occupations (Emyooga). However, tribal chauvinism and lack of integration weakened us. That is why the NRM emphasises patriotism and Pan Africanism. You need Uganda and Africa for your prosperity.
Our cultural leaders have an important role in preserving our languages, culture and indigenous knowledge, while leaving politics and administration to elected leaders. We must reject the colonial mentality that makes Africans despise their own heritage. I am looking forward to continued discussions tomorrow.
Lt. Mabonga’s attacks against SFC Commander Maj Gen Asaph Mweteise Nyakikuru are rooted in disagreements over his demands for money from SFC and his request for an audience with President Yoweri Museveni to present claims that Afande Asaph reportedly found inconsistent and unsupported by evidence. When Afande refused to entertain these demands,he was labelled arrogant.
I stand with Afande Asaph. I call upon the Commander-in-Chief, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni @KagutaMuseveni , and CDF Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba @mkainerugaba to investigate people behind smear campaign against good officers.
Ugandans also deserve answers: Who is funding individuals operating (Different Social Media handles) from Kenya to attack Uganda’s government institutions and officers? Who is behind them, and what is their agenda? We must not allow misinformation and attempts to create instability to go unchallenged.
Finally,if Lt. Mabonga alleges that Maj Gen Asaph Mweteise Nyakikuru killed John Bosco Kibalama, let him provide credible evidence. As far as I know, the Kibalama issue dates back to 2019. Yet,according to the appointment timeline, Afande Asaph was appointed SFC Commander on 18 June 2024 and officially took over on 20 June 2024. He was therefore not at SFC Headquarters in 2021, contrary to what Lt. Mabonga has claimed. Don’t you see the inconsistencies in Lt. Mabonga’s statements? Allegations against good UPDF officers should not become weapons against them simply because they refuse to entertain claims they consider false or unsupported.
I Stand With Gen @AsaphMweteise

Breaking: Renegade UPDF General Peter Elwelu has this evening been arrested by the security forces in Soroti City.
Lt. Gen. Elwelu has been on the run over involvement in subversive activities and plans to destabilize Teso.
The security forces recently recovered 15 guns in his possession, military fatigues, and two pickup trucks.
He will be charged and prosecuted in the courts of law accordingly says spokesperson of @MODVA_UPDF Col @ChrisOMagezi
Lt. Mabonga’s attacks against the SFC Commander, Maj. Gen. Asaph Mweteise Nyakikuru, appear to stem from disagreements over alleged demands for money from the Special Forces Command (SFC) and his request for an audience with President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to present certain claims. These claims were reportedly considered inconsistent and unsupported by evidence by Afande Asaph. When the General declined to entertain the demands, he was subsequently labelled arrogant.
I stand with Afande Asaph. I call upon the Commander-in-Chief, H.E. President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni @KagutaMuseveni, and the Chief of Defence Forces, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba @mkainerugaba, to investigate those behind the alleged smear campaign targeting patriotic and dedicated UPDF officers.
Ugandans also deserve answers: Who is financing individuals operating various social media accounts from Kenya to attack Uganda’s government institutions and security officers? Who is behind these coordinated attacks, and what is their ultimate agenda? We must not allow misinformation, character assassination and deliberate attempts to undermine public confidence in our institutions to go unchallenged.
Furthermore, if Lt. Mabonga alleges that Maj. Gen. Asaph Mweteise Nyakikuru was responsible for the death of John Bosco Kibalama, he should present credible and verifiable evidence to substantiate the allegation.
The timeline also raises important questions that deserve clarification. The Kibalama matter reportedly dates back to 2019. However, according to the appointment timeline, Afande Asaph was appointed SFC Commander on 18 June 2024 and officially assumed office on 20 June 2024. This raises questions about Lt. Mabonga’s claims linking him to events at SFC Headquarters in 2021, several years before his appointment as Commander.
Does this not expose inconsistencies in Lt. Mabonga’s account?
Serious allegations against UPDF officers must be supported by credible evidence and subjected to proper investigation. They should never be used as instruments of intimidation, character assassination or retaliation against officers who decline to entertain claims they consider false or unsubstantiated.
