Statements from the Last three Muftis of Saudi Arabia Regarding Palestine

1. Sheikh ʿAbd al-ʿAziz ibn Baz (May Allah have mercy on him)

Sheikh Ibn Baz stated regarding Palestine and the conflict in his fatwa titled “The Palestinian Cause” (القضية الفلسطينية). Ibn Baz said:

The Palestinian cause is an Islamic cause, first and last… I see that a solution to this issue cannot be reached except by considering it an Islamic cause and through Muslims joining together to save it… until the land returns to its people.

We ask Allah to grant victory to our brothers striving in the cause of Allah in Palestine and elsewhere against their enemy, to unite them upon the truth, and to enable all Muslims to assist them and stand alongside them against their enemy.”

2. Sheikh ʿAbd al-ʿAziz Al al-Sheikh رحمه الله

As Grand Mufti and head of Saudi Arabia’s Permanent Committee for Scholarly Research and Ifta, he issued a statement regarding Gaza:

“The Committee has followed with great sorrow, sadness and pain what has happened and continues to happen to our Muslim brothers in Palestine, particularly in the Gaza Strip, from aggression, the killing of children, women and the elderly, violation of sanctities, destruction of homes and facilities, and terrorizing innocent people. There is no doubt that this is criminality and oppression against the Palestinian people.”

The statement called for the Palestinian people to be given their rights and for the oppression against them to be lifted so that they could live a dignified life.

3. Sheikh Saleh al-Fawzan حفظه الله

When Sheikh Saleh al-Fawzan was asked what Muslims should do concerning the Palestinian cause, he described Palestinians as “oppressed and persecuted” and said:

The action required is to supplicate for their victory, supplicate against their enemies, and assist them financially, because they are in need. Among them are families, elderly people, children and poor people. They should be assisted financially along with supplication for them.”
