📍 Privileged to represent Albania at the 5th Ministerial Conference on Feminist Foreign Policy in 🇪🇸 Madrid earlier this week.
In my intervention, I reaffirmed Albania’s commitment to advancing gender equality through inclusive policies, gender-responsive budgeting, and stronger accountability mechanisms.
As Vice-President of the Executive Board of UN Women and as facilitator of the UN Women Strategic Plan 2026–2029 process, Albania remains fully committed to advancing these objectives at both national and international levels. Financing is never gender neutral, the way resources are allocated can either reduce inequalities or reinforce them.
🇦🇱 Albania remains committed to placing gender equality at the heart of development financing and public policymaking, because investing in women and girls means investing in stronger economies, more resilient societies, and a more sustainable future.
On the occasion of Sweden’s National Day, Albania extends its warmest wishes to the Kingdom of Sweden and its people. 🇦🇱🇸🇪
In recent years, Albania and Sweden have brought their partnership to new heights, strengthening cooperation across many areas and deepening the ties between our peoples. United by shared democratic values and our alliance within NATO, our countries continue to build an increasingly close and forward-looking relationship.
Albania highly values Sweden’s steadfast support for our European path and looks forward to further expanding our friendship and cooperation in the years ahead.
Glad nationaldag, Sverige!
In #Thessaloniki 23 years ago, the EU declared: the future of the Western Balkans is in the EU.
Today, in Tivat, that message was renewed and made even clearer: that future is now.
#Enlargement#Horizon2030
Finally, great news!
The successful conclusion of negotiations on the gradual elimination of #roaming charges between the European Union and the #WesternBalkans is set to deliver one of the most tangible and meaningful benefits of European integration for citizens and businesses alike.
This achievement will enhance connectivity, facilitate travel and communication, strengthen people-to-people contacts, and create new opportunities for trade, investment, and economic cooperation across Europe. It is also expected to provide a significant boost to mobility and #tourism, particularly in #Albania, by making travel more convenient, affordable, and accessible for millions of European visitors.
More than a technical accomplishment, it represents a concrete step towards the gradual integration of the Western Balkans into the EU Single Market and a more connected #European space. It demonstrates how the enlargement process can generate real and immediate benefits for citizens, even before accession.
Bringing the Western Balkans closer to the European Union must be reflected not only through policies and institutions, but also through practical improvements that people can experience in their everyday lives. Lower communication costs, greater mobility, and stronger regional and European links are clear examples of how integration delivers tangible results.
These commitments were at the heart of today’s discussions at the EU–Western Balkans Summit in Tivat, where leaders reaffirmed their shared determination to accelerate the region’s gradual integration into the European Union through concrete measures that bring citizens and businesses closer together.
A stronger partnership between the European Union and the Western Balkans is an investment not only in the region’s future, but also in Europe’s security, competitiveness, resilience, and cohesion. This is European integration at its best: delivering concrete benefits where they matter most—in the daily lives of our citizens.

📍Bruxelles -- Very pleased to meet and catch up with MEP @andreykovatchev.
Our discussion focused on the regional and broader geopolitical dynamics shaping Europe today, including Albania’s EU accession process and the importance of preserving the current momentum of enlargement. We discussed also about the report on #Albania adopted last month by the European Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Affairs, which sends a strong and encouraging message in support of our European path.
At a time of increasing geopolitical uncertainty, #enlargement is a strategic investment in a stronger, more secure, and more united Europe, and is essential for strengthening Europe’s stability, resilience, and geopolitical credibility.
Grateful for Mr. Kovatchev’s continued engagement and support for Albania’s EU accession process and for advancing the #European perspective of the entire region of #WesternBalkans. 🇦🇱🇪🇺

Pleased to meet my dear friend, 🇦🇱Minister @HoxhaFer Albania has made great progress on its EU path. Fulfilling the Interim Benchmarks for Cluster 1 and opening all negotiating clusters are important milestones. I encourage Albania to maintain the momentum and advance reforms🇦🇱🇪🇺
🇦🇱 Mirë se vini! Delighted to welcome Albanian Foreign Minister @HoxhaFer to Brussels, a friend and a former diplomat who knows this city inside out from his years as Ambassador here. And unfortunately familiar with the typical Belgian rain showers!
We had a meeting full of good news. Belgium will open an embassy in Tirana, a clear signal of the importance we attach to our relationship. And just last week, Albania became the second EU candidate country to receive the IBAR, entering the concluding phase of accession negotiations. That is a remarkable achievement and one we congratulate Albania for warmly.
Belgium encourages Albania to continue on this path with the same determination, particularly on rule of law, judicial independence and the fight against corruption. The path to membership is merit-based, and Albania is proving it can deliver.
We also discussed our bilateral cooperation on justice, police and the fight against organised crime, as well as Albania's constructive role in regional stability. The Western Balkans are high on my agenda. I look forward to visiting Tirana next year for the opening of our embassy.

📍Brussels -- A moment to celebrate, a moment to cheer, a moment for "Gëzuar".
It was a great pleasure to welcome friends & colleagues from EU Member States and institutions to the #Mission of Albania to the EU in Brussels to celebrate, in keeping with a well-established tradition, a key milestone in Albania’s European journey: the successful outcome of the 8th #Intergovernmental Conference and the positive assessment reflected in the Interim Benchmark Assessment Report, #IBAR.
This achievement is the result of years of sustained effort, political commitment, and far-reaching reforms, often challenging, yet essential, undertaken with determination by the Albanian #Government & institutions. It reaffirms a fundamental principle of the enlargement process: progress is, and must remain, merit-based.
We were particularly pleased to celebrate with the Commissioner for Enlargement, our @MartaKosEU. Her engagement and unwavering commitment as well as that of her team, in Brussels and in Albania, to a credible enlargement process have been instrumental in maintaining momentum and strengthening confidence in the transformative power of the #European project.
We are fully aware that the positive IBAR outcome is both an encouragement and a responsibility. It recognizes how far #Albania has come, while setting the stage for the work that lies ahead. One thing is certain: Albania remains fully committed to advancing reforms, moving steadily toward the closure of negotiating chapters, and fulfilling the aspirations of generations of Albanians who see their future firmly anchored in the #EuropeanUnion.
Today's gathering was therefore not only a celebration of an important achievement, but also an opportunity to express our gratitude to all those who have accompanied and supported Albania along this path: the European Commission and other EU institutions, to all Member States for their understanding, support and encouragement, and all our friends who continue to believe in Albania and in the European future of the #WesternBalkans.
A cheer to Albania;
A cheer to our European future;
A chear to a stronger, more united & prosper Europe.🇦🇱🇪🇺

📍Brussels -- Very good exchange today with Ms. Els Van Hoof, Chair of the Chamber’s Foreign Affairs Committee, focused on the opportunities for further strengthening the excellent relations between #Albania and #Belgium. 🇦🇱🇧🇪
I conveyed Albania’s sincere appreciation for Belgium’s continued support for EU enlargement and, in particular, for our EU accession process, as well as for the constructive bilateral cooperation that has steadily deepened over the years.
Our discussion highlighted the importance of maintaining a strong and regular political dialogue, including through enhanced #parliamentary exchanges, anchored in our shared commitment to a stronger Europe and guided by a practical, results-oriented approach. Parliamentary diplomacy has an important role to play in fostering mutual understanding, supporting reform processes, and bringing our institutions and societies closer together.
We exchanged views on the renewed momentum of EU enlargement and the strategic importance of the #WesternBalkans for Europe’s security, stability, and prosperity. In this context, I underlined Albania’s determination to continue advancing its reform agenda and to move forward decisively in the accession negotiations.
