Our discussions reaffirmed our shared commitment to further enhance political dialogue, expand bilateral cooperation across key sectors, and continue working closely together in advancing our common European agenda.

I congratulated #Cyprus on the excellent work accomplished during its Presidency of the Council of the European Union. At a time of heightened global uncertainty and growing security challenges, Cyprus has successfully advanced an ambitious agenda focused on building a more resilient, strategically autonomous, and forward-looking European Union.

In this respect, I expressed our gratitude for Cyprus’s leadership, commitment, and steadfast support for the #enlargement process, and for Albania’s EU accession path in particular. The successful completion of the #IBAR during the Cyprus Presidency represents a landmark achievement in Albania’s accession journey and will be remembered as a decisive milestone that paved the way for the next phase of negotiations towards EU membership.

We also exchanged views on regional and international developments and discussed developments in the #Mediterranean and the #MiddleEast, underlining the importance of safeguarding peace, stability, and security in these strategically important regions. We reaffirmed our shared belief that dialogue, diplomacy, and cooperation remain the most effective tools for addressing challenges and preventing tensions.

Ishte kënaqësi të merrja pjesë në aktivitetin kushtuar 40-vjetorit të rivendosjes së marrëdhënieve diplomatike ndërmjet Shqipërisë dhe Spanjës.

Siç shkruante poeti i madh spanjoll, Antonio Machado, “Se hace camino al andar” – rruga krijohet duke ecur.

Gjatë katër dekadave të fundit, vendet tona e kanë ndërtuar këtë rrugë së bashku, hap pas hapi, përmes miqësisë, respektit të ndërsjellë, solidaritetit dhe, gjatë 35 viteve të fundit, përkushtimit të palëkundur ndaj vlerave tona të përbashkëta europiane.

Kur marrëdhëniet diplomatike u rivendosën, në vitin 1986, Shqipëria ishte ende e izoluar pas Perdes së Hekurt, ndërsa Spanja po konsolidonte tranzicionin e saj të jashtëzakonshëm demokratik dhe të ardhmen europiane. Pak kush mund ta kishte imagjinuar atëherë se sa thellësisht do të ndryshonin kontinenti ynë dhe dy vendet tona.

Sot, #Shqipëria dhe #Spanja janë partnere të ngushta, aleate në #NATO, të bashkuara nga një dialog politik i shkëlqyer, lidhje ekonomike, tregtare dhe investime në rritje, marrëdhënie të gjalla mes njerëzve dhe një vizion i përbashkët për një Europë paqësore, të begatë dhe të bashkuar.

Very pleased to join today’s celebration marking the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Albania and Spain. 🇦🇱🇪🇸

As the great Spanish poet Antonio Machado once wrote, “Se hace camino al andar”, the road is made by walking.

Over the past four decades, our two countries have built that road together, step by step, through friendship, mutual respect, solidarity, and, during the last 36 years, an unwavering commitment to shared #European values.

When diplomatic relations were re-established in 1986, Albania was still isolated behind the Iron Curtain, while Spain was consolidating its remarkable democratic transition and European future. Few could have imagined then how profoundly our continent, and our two countries, would change.

Today, #Albania and #Spain are close partners, #NATO allies, united by strong political dialogue, growing economic, trade and investment ties, vibrant people-to-people connections, and a common vision for a peaceful, prosperous, and united #Europe.

As Albania advances through the most dynamic and consequential phase of its EU accession process, we remain deeply appreciative of Spain’s friendship, support, and engagement throughout our transformation.

Pleased to meet with the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Italy, Edmondo Cirielli. 🇦🇱🇮🇹

After my recent visit to #Rome, this was another valuable opportunity to reaffirm the exceptional quality of Albania–Italy relations, rooted in deep historical ties, vibrant people-to-people connections, and an intensive political dialogue that continues to expand across an ever-growing range of areas.

Particular attention was devoted to strengthening our economic #partnership through increased trade and investment flows, enhanced connectivity, and the creation of new opportunities for cooperation between our business communities. #Italy is Albania’s leading economic partner, and we see considerable potential to further deepen this mutually beneficial relationship.

I reiterated #Albania’s sincere appreciation for Italy’s longstanding support for our development, modernization, and our #European accession path. The contribution of the Italian Development Cooperation (Cooperazione allo Sviluppo) has been instrumental in advancing Albania’s socio-economic progress, strengthening institutions, and supporting key reform efforts over the years. For this continued partnership and solidarity, we remain deeply grateful.

We also exchanged views on #regional developments and broader international issues, reaffirming our shared commitment to peace, stability, prosperity, and the European future of the #WesternBalkans.

Finally, great news!

The successful conclusion of negotiations on the gradual elimination of #roaming charges between the European Union and the #WesternBalkans is set to deliver one of the most tangible and meaningful benefits of European integration for citizens and businesses alike.

This achievement will enhance connectivity, facilitate travel and communication, strengthen people-to-people contacts, and create new opportunities for trade, investment, and economic cooperation across Europe. It is also expected to provide a significant boost to mobility and #tourism, particularly in #Albania, by making travel more convenient, affordable, and accessible for millions of European visitors.

More than a technical accomplishment, it represents a concrete step towards the gradual integration of the Western Balkans into the EU Single Market and a more connected #European space. It demonstrates how the enlargement process can generate real and immediate benefits for citizens, even before accession.

Bringing the Western Balkans closer to the European Union must be reflected not only through policies and institutions, but also through practical improvements that people can experience in their everyday lives. Lower communication costs, greater mobility, and stronger regional and European links are clear examples of how integration delivers tangible results.

These commitments were at the heart of today’s discussions at the EU–Western Balkans Summit in Tivat, where leaders reaffirmed their shared determination to accelerate the region’s gradual integration into the European Union through concrete measures that bring citizens and businesses closer together.

A stronger partnership between the European Union and the Western Balkans is an investment not only in the region’s future, but also in Europe’s security, competitiveness, resilience, and cohesion. This is European integration at its best: delivering concrete benefits where they matter most—in the daily lives of our citizens.

Russia’s aggression, support for #Ukraine, and regional security.

#Lithuania welcomes Albania’s progress on its 🇪🇺 path and encourages 🇦🇱 to keep up the pace and continue its ambitious reforms. I also emphasised that sustained support for 🇺🇦 and strict enforcement of sanctions against Russia remain essential.

We are also grateful for Albania’s contribution to the security of the Baltic States and @NATO’s frontline, as well as its role as a reliable and committed ally.

Deeply saddened by the tragic level crossing accident in Buggenhout, Belgium, which claimed the lives of four people, including two children.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to the grieving families and all those affected by this devastating loss.

Albania strongly condemns yet another brutal and indiscriminate large-scale ballistic missile and drone #attack launched last night by Russia against civilian targets in Ukraine, in total disregard for human life and basic human decency.

This time, the residential complex where the #Ambassador of Albania to #Ukraine resides was struck, putting his life at serious risk. This is unacceptable!

Targeting or endangering civilian areas and #diplomatic personnel represents a grave escalation and another stark reminder of the human cost of Russia’s continued aggression.

This war of choice has lasted for far too long. For more than four years since its illegal full-scale invasion, Russia has relentlessly targeted energy infrastructure, schools, hospitals, and homes across Ukraine. Yet it has failed to break the #courage, determination, resilience, and strength of the Ukrainian people.

Russia is not winning; it is only killing, destroying, and inflicting widespread devastation and suffering.

We reiterate our call on #Russia to immediately cease these attacks, put an end to the war against Ukraine, fully abide by international law, and return to negotiations.

#Albania will continue to stand firmly with #Ukraine and reiterates its unwavering support for Ukraine’s #sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity. Those responsible for these attacks must be held accountable.

Very pleased to join the #GLOBSEC Forum in a panel discussion on #enlargement and current trends. 🇦🇱🇪🇺

The EU #accession process remains our top national priority. It lies at the heart of our development drive, has continuously guided our reforms, strengthened our institutions, and helped transform Albania into a functioning democracy grounded in the rule of law.

We have come a long way and we know what it takes to earn EU membership. For us, EU accession is a #two-way process.

The opening of all 33 negotiation chapters in record time reflects two sides of the same coin: on one hand, our unwavering determination to deliver reforms faithfully and consistently in a merit-based process; on the other, the clarity of vision and political commitment of EU institutions and Member States. This shared effort is what makes the process and its progress tangible, credible, and real.

Our #ambition and focus are clear: to continue and consolidate an irreversible reform path, moving closer to our objective every day. In this regard, the upcoming eighth Intergovernmental Conference (IGC8) with #Albania on the Interim Benchmark Assessment Report (IBAR), scheduled for 26 May 2026, will mark another key milestone in the EU accession process. It will confirm the fulfilment of the interim benchmarks by Albania and to set closing benchmarks for Cluster 1 'The Fundamentals'

EU #enlargement has always been an investment in Europe’s security and resilience. Today, this has become an imperative. That is why we support and embrace gradual integration, the “access before accession” approach, where, as we move closer to EU membership by 2030, citizens and businesses can already feel the tangible benefits of integration along the way.

A reliable and committed partner, fully aligned with the EU Common Foreign and Security Policy, standing firmly with Ukraine, and contributing actively within NATO, #Albania will continue to play a responsible and constructive role in strengthening collective security, stability, and resilience, in the #WesternBalkans region and beyond.

Pasi vetëm të gjithë së bashku, në atdhe dhe në Diasporë, si dhe në bashkëpunim edhe me partnerët tanë #ndërkombëtarë të përfshirë në këtë proces, mund të ndërtojmë një Strategji që përcakton, në një nivel më ambicioz, drejtimet kryesore të bashkëpunimit me diasporën shqiptare në planin institucional, ekonomik dhe social, edhe në shërbim të objektivit tonë madhor kombëtar, antarësimi në #BashkiminEvropian.

Sepse e ardhmja jonë evropiane nuk do të ndërtohet vetëm në Bruksel apo në kryeqytetet e mëdha.

Ajo do të ndërtohet së pari këtu, nga fëmijë dhe të rinj si ju, në Tiranë, në Shkodër, në Korçë, në Vlorë dhe kudo ku mendjet e reja ëndërrojnë një të nesërme më të mirë.
