Da settembre ho smesso di ascoltare la radio in macchina, tornando a casa dal lavoro. Per più di vent’anni era sintonizzata su Raidue, su Caterpillar. Una trasmissione intelligente, politica nel senso vero, orientata a una certa idea di sinistra sociale ma mai militante, mai urlata. Ti apriva la mente mentre eri fermo in coda, e quando arrivavi a casa eri un po’ meno stanco di quando eri salito in macchina.

Poi è arrivato settembre. Caterpillar non l’hanno cancellata, sia chiaro. L’hanno spostata dalle sei del pomeriggio a quasi le otto di sera, in un orario in cui chi lavora non la sente più. E nella fascia buona, quella del rientro, ci hanno messo tre ragazzotti urlanti più la Belen, che sparano cazzate che manco al bar dopo tre birre, con la stessa Belen che in quanto a concetti si esprime più o meno come una capra tibetana.

Perché è così che funziona questa destra al governo: non censura, occupa. Riempie ogni spazio, anche quelli piccoli, anche un’ora di radio del tardo pomeriggio, perché evidentemente persino quell’ora dava fastidio. Una trasmissione che parlava di ambiente, di diritti, di lavoro, nell’orario in cui la gente torna a casa dal lavoro vero. Troppo. Meglio rumore al posto del pensiero.

Massimo Cirri e Sara Zambotti, con tutti quelli che in trent’anni si sono avvicendati al microfono di Caterpillar, sono finiti dopo cena, quando la macchina è già parcheggiata. Io intanto ho spento la radio. Vent’anni di abitudine, finiti così. Ascolto musica, che almeno non finge di essere servizio pubblico.
