We need people with no attachment to the regions or WRU to make the difficult decisions to obtain the optimal setup to achieve success at the international level -I’d do a complete reset with the regions but that would be wholly unpopular -just my opinion

@davidjusteat I’ve supported the group over the last 20 years, through the good and very mediocre. My actual point is how can the owner of team that has only 36 league wins out of 189 games since 2015 be in a place to critique the state of Welsh rugby. Stones and glasses house come to mind.

There’s talent available to Wales, we need a coach without an agenda against certain players/teams, doesn’t throw players under the bus for his own failings and creates an environment organically, where players feel able to challenge and make people accountable, but to encourage.

Last thoughts, Gatland is a deadman walking. This group needs a new voice, a coach who is willing to adapt to the player available rather than moan and groan about the lack of size/physicality. Japan in 2015 showed that you can still making teams on player a lighter style.

Bench lacking any really point of different (as is the wider squad)… I’d stack it with the best ball carries available… Dee, Smith, Warren (Assiratti is overrated), Teddy Williams, Tshiunza, Bevan (should be RMW tho), Page (if called up) and Mee.

Reffell either starts or he’s not in match day 23. Morgan is a better 7 at int level, and Tommy doesn’t offer anything dynamic from the bench. I would go with the same pack vs Italy but bringing in Taulipe (if fit or Freddie Thomas at 6, with JB moving to 8), if Wainwright is out

Forward some good grunt, losing Wainwright was night ideal tho. Front row did their job but GT was outstanding before being subbed. Rowlands best game for us in a while, Jenkins will play better, Botham & Morgan very good, I’m not convinced on Reffell, underwhelming imo.

Howley being brought in as an attack coach is interesting. He didn’t bring the best out of golden gen, let alone youngster trying to make their way at int level.

So backline wise, I’d go for Tomos, Edwards, James, Roberts, Li Wills, Rogers and Ben Thomas at FB (or maybe Mee on the wing, with Wills staying at FB) vs Italy.

With OW out, I think they’d bring in Jonny Williams, good regional player, I don’t see an int player there. I’d rather give Macs Page given the call up. Adams really frustrating, experience player but wasn’t involved and lost his head (would be nice to see the reply tho).

Even if we went to a kicking strategy with Liam Wills and Rogers on the wings, compete for kicks, any wins would allow us to move the ball before the defence gets set. With LW on the wings, don’t ask me who I would play FB.

The pairing at centre was the safe option but were 2nd best before OW’s injury. I don’t really get the hype of Ben Thomas. He looks like a centre playing at 10, but probably not imposing enough to play 12 at int level. Need to have a rethink tactically.

Overall pleased with Dan’s contribution, he’ll get better. Only criticism would be how deep he was receiving the ball, having a knock on effect to the back line.

There’s a few things that puzzle me, but the non-selection of Reuben Morgan-Williams doesn’t make any sense, esp with Rhodri Williams in the squad. RMW would’ve given some familiarity with Dan Edwards, bringing consistency of terminology at half back and attacking shape.
