@Avs_Daily I totally agree. I feel better reading that. This saison was great anyway et it was my first trip in Denver from France against the Kings Unforgettable.
After last night’s heartbreak here are some thoughts:
So much has to go right to ultimately win the Stanley Cup (just ask McDavid, Iginla, Bure, Lundqvist, etc.)
Injuries and goaltending obviously derailed this series against the Knights.
Still gotta give credit to Vegas who made life unbelievably difficult for the Avs to get to their game.
Too many big names were passengers in this series (Nelson, Necas, Nichushkin).
Shortcomings with size and toughness are clear weak points for this team both in the bottom 6 and on defense (Vegas bullied the Avs in small areas of the ice).
The powerplay is just lost. We saw it in the regular season and it carried over into the playoffs.
The Avs desperately need Blackwood to return to form and show he can be a reliable starter in the playoffs (He was great in Game 4).
Firing Bednar is simply an emotional decision. Unless Makar or Mackinnon are going to Sakic saying that he’s lost the room, he stays. You aren’t finding a better replacement with the current options.
Yes the core is aging, but as long as Makar and Mackinnon (2 of the top 3 players in the world) are healthy your window is always open.
Moral of the story is this loss hurt more than any I can remember. Just remember only one team gets to claim glory at the end of all of this and SO MUCH has to go right to win.

Guess what. I invested 7 months of watching hockey during that regular season. I saw more wins then ever before. I watched my team score the most goals and give up the fewest. I watched them statistically have their greatest season in 30 years.
I spent nearly 250 hours of my time tuned in watching and celebrating night after night after night. Do things sucks right now ? Sure! But that doesn't mean it wasn't an extremely enjoyable season to watch up until 8 days ago.
They made the final 4. They out lasted 28 other teams. They won a division and a presidents trophy. They swept the kings. They nearly swept their bitter division rival.
I refuse to see it as failure. Just not how I'll quantify it. Winning the cup takes more than just being the best team. Takes a ton of luck and it just wasn't on our side. Still was a helluva season to watch.
I understand the immediate anger about wanting to blow it all up. Fire everyone etc.
But can we take a moment and look at the facts:
This team lost 1 freaking time in all of 2025.
This team led the NHL wire to the wire for the first time in god knows how long.
This team had the most standings points in their 30 years history.
This team gave up the fewest goals and scored the most.
This team swept the first round and took out one of the top teams in the league and a bitter rival in 5 games.
Should what happened in the span of 8 days invalidate what this team did in 8 months?
With no Makar? And a very injured Mackinnon?
I don't get the window closing talk. Did the majority of this team have a rough series. YUP. Did many have a rough playoff. YUP.
But that shit happens. The playoffs are a lot of luck. They are very unpredictable. You gotta get your way through the regular season gauntlet before you can even start trying to get through.
Don't get me wrong this ending is unacceptable. But I just refuse to let these last 8 days invalidate what the last 8 months of Avalanche hockey felt like.
8 days ago this was the most fun season of Avs hockey I've seen in 30 years.
And next year?
We get a full year of Naz back. We will be featured in the biggest NHL premier game for the first time ever. We are getting TWO brand New Jerseys that I cannot wait to buy. And there's nothing I've seen that shows me they can't have a ton of success next year again.
Crazy how quick things flopped but it happens.
Bottom line I hope Sakic and Co and Avs Faithful take a step back and really look at the bigger picture here.
@AvalancheFrance Il faut raison garder !
