#Privatisation of employment services was a mistake. There are changes to the system that should be made now to make it work better & not be punitive on jobseekers….but there’s a fundamental conflict with a for profit model.

Last night we farewelled @KazzaJA who has made an enormous contribution to the @CPSUnion and the union movement over the last 40 years. Thanks for everything Karen
McKinsey has paid $1m in income tax in Australia in the last two financial years on total income of nearly $850m. In this time, the consulting giant won a number of lucrative pandemic response contracts from the federal govt. My story for @Innov_Aus: https://t.co/N83dN1JTSD
Labor Leader Anthony Albanese has savaged the Liberals’ plan to slash almost $3 billion from the Australian public service https://t.co/WmJpm5t36e #auspol#ausvotes2022
The double whammy of Morrisons’s massive outsourcing spree…$millions & $millions of contracts going to consultants for work the public service can & should be doing…and those contract profits going offshore?

There is a lot at stake in tomorrow’s federal election for APS workers and the thousands who rely on public services every day… 🧵
1. Coalition will continue APS staff caps, outsourcing PS work to consultants and labour hire firms.. which is more expensive and less effective
By contrast:
1. ALP will scrap the staffing caps, cut the spend on consultants and reinvest in PS capacity with more permanent jobs
2. ALP will address insecure work across the PS
3. ALP will bargain with employees and unions for fair wages and fair outcomes
I just did the sums on Labor's childcare policy. Over past 6 years with two girls in childcare, I've paid $125,000. If I had gone through this journey under the Labor policy, instead I would have paid $71,000, a saving of $54,000. That's average of $9k per year, $175 per week.
Outrageous: Veteran Suicide Royal Commission has evidence from the Govt’s own Dept that staff shortfalls create delays in support for veterans, and this sadly can have tragic consequences.
So what does Morrison do? Cut staff!

Public Services should be an election issue.
The decisions govts make about funding & staffing have profound impacts on the community.
Scott Morrison's $3.3b in cuts will hurt many people.

The Minister’s answer is not credible. When the Coalition has previously increased the ‘efficiency dividend’ three things have happened:
- thousands of jobs are cut
- services are impacted
- spending goes up on consultants.
This latest cut of $3.3b will do the same.
#auspol
Talking today about why the Morrison Govt’s decision to slash PS funding will result in more job cuts, longer wait times and processing time for the community.
There is simply no fat to cut from the public sector #ausunions#auspol
Imagine announcing you’re cutting thousands of jobs as though Australians will welcome that?
I stand with public service workers today, and every day. A strong public service is better for all Australians. @CPSUnion #AusVotes22
The actual cut to the public service is $2.7billion - which means 5400 jobs to go. A huge cut with massive implications for service delivery and policy work.

The next Australian government must tackle poverty. How is it possible to live on $46 a day in 2022 in one of the most expensive countries in the world? #auspol#ausvotes2022 https://t.co/KGXNJN2456
Scott Morrison has just trashed any vestiges of economic credibility.
Costello, Hockey, Turnbull …. all said super for housing was a dumb idea that would blow up the housing market.
But Scott doesn’t give a dam. It’s all about the politics for this bloke.
