I guess the question is a bit ambiguous in that sense. If you’re talking purely physical cash loss, you could argue for 170 yeah. But in terms of asset value, 100.

Well the store has $170 in assets (100 in cash, 70 in goods). After the theft, they’re left with $70 in cash and $0 in goods:

170 - x = 70
x = 100 <- total loss
