🚨 Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has signed a bill requiring the inclusion of Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) history in the K-12 curriculum across the state.

The general education bill includes new requirements, notably, the teaching of the incarceration of Japanese Americans during World War II, and the immigration, citizenship, civil rights, identity, culture, and contributions of AAPIs to American society.

Florida is the first Republican-led state to pass such a law.

The law will take effect on July 1, but it will take years to prepare the curriculum.

While this legislation advances AAPI representation, DeSantis has also passed a separate law banning Chinese citizens from buying land in Florida, with an exception for Chinese visa holders, who may own one home if registered with a state agency.
