Kirk Gibson's dramatic walk-off home run in Game 1 of the 1988 World Series
One of baseball history's most memorable moments, called by two of broadcasting's most iconic voices
Jack Buck for CBS Radio and Vin Scully for NBC
A fun night at the UK Tipoff Dinner at Rupp Arena! Got to watch a great @KentuckyMBB practice and talk to the players.
@CoachMarkPope invited former Wildcat @CoachTFord5 to talk to the crowd. They’ll face each other Friday in an exhibition game.
Mark Pope: “He’s one of the greatest shooters in the history of Kentucky basketball. He’s also the toughest, meanest and cheatingest player I know.”
GO CATS!!!

For the old timers from 1976 Peach Bowl champions, here is hotel rooming list for season opener against Oregon State. The @UKFootball Wildcats spent night before home games at a local motel, often Holiday Inn near I-75 exit near Athens. UK beat OSU 38-13.
"Then GM Frank Lane tried to sign me for 1959.
Lane said:
"I’ll give you the $1,500 if you take this deal."
It was really a paltry raise.
I told him there was no way I’d sign that contract, and what was more, I expected the $1,500 because he knew he had promised it to me.
I ended that year with 41 homers and 113 RBI and batted .303.
We went back and forth all winter, and finally he signed me for double what I had made in 1958.
Right then I knew I was in trouble with Frank Lane."
Rocky Colavito.
"What's all the fuss about?
All I did was trade hamburger for steak." GM Frank "Trader" Lane on the Rocky Colovito trade.
Rocky Colavito was ejected from a game with the Yankees in New York after climbing into the stands, to go after a drunken Yankee fan who had been scuffling with his older father, after the fan started harassing Colavito's wife.
Over the 1958 and 1959 seasons, Rocky Colavito’s homer and RBI totals (83 & 224) outclassed those of both Willie Mays (63 & 200) and Mickey Mantle (73 & 172).
Teammate Herb Score sensed it, too.
"With Rocky, his word is his bond.
If he says he will be there at five o’clock, he is there at five o’clock.
He is the most honorable man I know.
But if you promise to do something for him and you don’t, you’re off his list.
He never forgets anything.
There was a time when I was broadcasting, and Rocky was a coach with the Indians.
I was talking to a guy who was a pitching coach.
He had managed against Rocky and me when we were in the minors about twenty years before.
Rocky walked right by us and barely said hello.
I said;
"Rocky, you remember so-and-so."
Rocky said, "Yeah," then he walked away.
I couldn’t figure out why he acted like that.
Later I saw Rocky, and I said:
"Roomie, what was all that about?"
He said:
"Herb, don’t you remember?"
I had no idea what he was talking about.
Rocky said:
"In 1953 that guy had his pitcher knock me down.’
I said.
"Rocky, that was twenty years ago."
But to him, it was still yesterday.
So if he didn’t forget something like that, you can imagine what he thinks of Frank Lane."
"The Curse of Rocky Colavito"
Terry Pluto.
"As I’ve said before, and I’ll repeat myself, I never put any curse on them.
I never did anything like that.
I always hope that Cleveland does well." Rocky Colavito.
On the day of the Colavito trade, April 17, 1960, the Indians played the White Sox in an exhibition game at 64-year-old Russwood Park in Memphis.
Colavito hit a home run in the second inning, and reporters in the press box were informed of the trade shortly thereafter.
Four hours after the game ended, "Russwood Park", constructed primarily of wood in 1896, was destroyed in a five-alarm fire!!!
Colavito`s career OPS+ is ahead of stars like Reggie Jackson and Carl Yastrzemski. ALWAYS in my HOF!!!!!

So, so saddened to hear news former UK All American Cliff Hagan passed away today. Hagan, AD at UK from 1974-89, is in National Basketball Hall of Fame. A dear friend, Cliff was a great influence on my career and a vocal supporter of The Cats’ Pause when it was launched in 1976.
🚨 Kentucky continues to gain momentum for 2028 5-star and in-state DL Kellan Hall! 😼
The Louisville native canceled his Ohio State visit and returned to Lexington for the second time this season after previously attending the Alabama game.
Even after Kentucky’s upset win over LSU, Hall was caught on video yelling “GO CATS!” as fans stormed the field! 😼🔥
Now, Sam Spiegelman of On3 has flipped his prediction from Oklahoma to Kentucky, while Josh Edwards of 247Sports’ CatsPause has also predicted the Wildcats to land Hall.
The No. 2 overall recruit in the 2028 class hasn’t committed yet, but the momentum is certainly building for the Wildcats! #BBN
