@owenjonesjourno If this analysis is true, why was there a large “far right” movement before the War on Terror?
Why did you have the skinheads of the 80s, major protests against migration, constant debate, etc?
How have you landed on the post-9/11 wars as the central cause?
@TOldbittie46750 Haha — state exactly where I said that? I’m Scottish and of that ethnicity. I’m not denying anything. Look at my precise words.
These ethnicities absolutely *exist*. They are not identical with national identities. That’s my point.
He’s saying this because the logic of creating a direct equivalence between ethnicity and nationhood has been rapidly and publicly unpicked over the last few days.
These people are not proper conservatives, their views change with the winds, and their movement will fail.
The English are not a propositional nation, and we do not need to create logically consistent lines of argument to justify and validate our existence.
As with any ethnicity, it is a felt experience of belonging to a tribe based in heredity, continuity, and togetherness.
@TOldbittie46750 Illegal migrants should be deported, if it’s practicable to do so.
But to spend your time obsessing over skin colour as the sole focus of your political movement is ridiculous, pointless, and doomed to fail.
@TOldbittie46750 There’s no “goal”, other than to encourage a sensible approach to the migration that has already taken place.
So you think you’ll deport *every* migrant who ever came here? Don’t be silly. There needs to be an acceptance — to an *extent* — of the migration that has taken place.
@TheDronetek Your screenshot on the right proves my exact point. That’s precisely what I am saying. They are ethnically distinct from the main body of the Chinese population but considered nationally and civically Chinese for all intents and purposes.
There’s nothing difficult to understand.
@TheDronetek So effectively 1 in 10 Chinese citizens are not ethnically Chinese, as you say. Pretty significant, right?
On your assessment, ~10% of the Chinese population are not part of the Chinese nation. That’s mental, and they don’t see it that way.
@AltheChemist187 So you don’t want to conserve the traditions and history of this country. Fine. I have nothing else to say to you.
This is exactly what I mean: you’re all exactly like the left and inherit your ideas from the left.
To define nationhood, or nationality, solely through the prism of race is dangerous not least because it neglects the other vital aspects of national coherence: language; tradition; literature; religion; cultural and moral practices; historical remembrance, and so forth.
@reggggiecyde There is using the internet and then there’s being fully inculcated in venal, childish cults, using nothing but stock in-phrases, silly memes and so forth.
Notice how these people talk like leftists.
It’s the same adherence to in-group, made-up, lame jargon that’s meant to be insulting but which only means something to people who read the same collection of three Substacks, listen to the same two podcasters and whatever else.
'Proper conservatives.'
I'm not for conservation of your liberal cosmopolitanist, post-WW2 bommer truth regime, tran-ethnic, fake and gae civnat paradigm.
Anyone can use a quick Google or AI search to discover that none of these claims are true. They are simply false, and there are complex contexts that these people never bother to understand.
The remarkable thing about all conspiracy theories is how easy they are to debunk.
@richardpbacon 2. Netanyahu was warned by multiple intelligence agencies prior to Oct 7th that *something* was being planned. The scale, scope and hour of the attack were unknown. It was the same with 9/11 and 7/7. Generic terrorism risks were understood, but specific details were not.
@richardpbacon The intent behind the policy was to help prevent the humanitarian collapse of the Strip, which Netanyahu knew would quickly affect Israel.
It’s fair enough to note that some of the money went to Hamas’ other govt and military operations. But that definitely wasn’t the intent.
@CaptainOrlov@Sargon_of_Akkad You haven’t understood the point. I am not denying the existence of ethnicity. I am pointing out that ethnicity is not identical with nationhood.
