URGENT: TUNDU LISSUโS LIFE IS IN DANGER
Credible information indicates that Tundu Lissuโs life is at serious risk.
For more than 470 days, Tundu Lissu has been held in detention in Tanzania as an unconvicted prisoner, without a fair and timely resolution of his case.
His continued detention has drawn widespread international condemnation:
1. Amnesty International has declared his arrest unjust and called for his immediate release.
2. The UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention has concluded that his detention is arbitrary.
3. On 10 July 2026, the Commonwealth Ministerial Action Group (CMAG) called on the Government of Tanzania to resolve his detention within 30 days.
For more than two decades, Tundu Lissu has faced relentless persecution for his peaceful advocacy for democracy, the rule of law, and the protection of fundamental freedoms in Tanzania. In 2017, he narrowly survived an assassination attempt after being shot multiple times.
The Tanzanian authorities bear full responsibility for Tundu Lissuโs safety, health, and life.
Protect Tundu Lissu.
The world is watching.
