Anyone with takes on the US election needs absorb this fact. In Missouri voters chose paid family leave, abortion rights, and raising the minimum wage. AND they also voted for Trump and Hawley and a Republican governor and legislature, all of whom will stop all of those things
@Pilzening@PJ11819211 I think you are right! And there is often links (espesh on the US 'intellectual' left) between lazy 'rump' 'productive force determinist' Marxists and Realists. Both share in simplistic structural explanations. See: The Quincy Institute Extended Cinematic Universe
@lionel_trolling The idea that Mearsheimer was right because of the causal reasons for Russia's invasion is such crap. There is no evidence that this was the reason, not least Putin himself rejecting this reason in the Carlson interview!
@WilliamHogeland ugh, ur Sinners point again; white folks using black music to make a point about...white music. She did inspire future rock guitarists, she also inspired Ray Charles to mix her version of Gospel with early R&B to make soul. But let's focus on the white stuff as ever!
@GraceOnFootball Yeah, in the end the UAE makes profit from these things (based on their *very* favourable deals), so as you say, they will still exist, just not be as useful for (oh no!) the UAE
@Picturecorner@cricketingview You said removing limits would “make football more competitive”. It wouldn’t, it would just create a new sovereign wealth based elite, instead of the existing historical elite. Only difference would be - as we are seeing with City - is that elite will use govt pressure as well.
@Picturecorner@cricketingview Exactly In effect you are saying if City and Newcastle were allowed - legally - to spend what they wanted, then to you it is better to have a two team dominance - Newcastle and City (they would dominate because they are sovereign wealth funds). How is that better?
@cricketingview How does this make football more competitive, given that there is not an endless ammount of sovereign wealth funds that can buy teams? You are just arguing to swap one elite for another.
@_Ashley_John_@pythaginboots This chart seems obvious evidence it was ongoing. City the only club increasing commercial income during COVID is transparently silly
@chefy07@KieranMaguire Exactly, the debt isn't something fans should want to see, it's not ideal, but ManU is on the NYSE and the stock market doesn't seem to think the debt is a problem.
@KieranMaguire Seems fairly obvious it did! City the only team to see commercial income rise (at an increasing rate!) during COVID. They weren't even trying to hide it (or thought they were too powerful for it to matter)
@R1ichy@Macho_Grande1 But can City sustain a good team without hidden sovereign input? Do you really think it was the *only* team who's commercial value increased during COVID legitimately? To me it's dependent on sovereign wealth.
@R1ichy@Macho_Grande1 Why would another owner buy a club, if a State has been pumping it full of cash, so in reality the commercial income is a 'sham'? If the current City owners backed out - even if they did with on appeal - any new owner would know it's an unrealistic commercial exercise.
@Macho_Grande1 That's partly the problem, but a business owning a club is constrained by business practice, profit and loss (or serviceable debt). Hence PL rules. The problem for the defence City fans keep using is state ownership is not a normal business; it is far more dangerous and damaging
