We’re not yolking around when we say eggs are an important part of Alberta’s agriculture sector.
Last year, 177 egg farmers produced more than 1.18 billion eggs. That’s a lot of omelettes!

Every May long weekend, Alberta Wildfire sees an increase in the number of human-caused wildfires. Human-caused wildfires are preventable. Remember to properly extinguish your campfire by soaking it, stirring it, and soaking it again.
Our government is strengthening Alberta’s animal protection system while respecting responsible animal ownership, property rights, and the realities of agriculture in our province.
As we wrap up the spring legislative session, Bill 22, the Animal Protection Amendment Act, has passed third reading and is expected to receive Royal Assent in the coming days.
This legislation modernizes our animal protection laws, strengthens accountability, and increases penalties for offenders, including those making false or misleading reports.
There has been some misinformation circulating online about this bill, particularly around peace officer authorities and enforcement powers.
I wanted to take a moment to explain what Bill 22 does - and what it doesn’t do.
