I’m incredibly disappointed that @YourAlberta has not reversed its decision to claw back the $200/month federal disability benefit from AISH and Income Support recipients. This support was meant to help people with disabilities manage inflation—especially after the carbon rebate was cut.
For many, $200 is the difference between affording food, medication, shelter, or basic dignity. With Alberta having an $8.3 billion surplus last fiscal year, why are we the only province choosing to take this away?
Considering the past few years of toxic inflation, for many almost doubling their rents. Many folks now Homelessness for first time due to this. In my opinion, this decision doesn’t reflect care. It feels cruel—and people living with disabilities deserve better.
I believe our province still has an opportunity to reverse course; if it so chooses. I highly recommend that they consider reversing this decision and look at it from the perspectives I have outlined.
