In this case, the reduction of the contact angle was associated with the hydroxyl groups of Zr-OH and Si-OH present in the hybrid coating, due to their incomplete condensation.

@NicoRtanguy @LatinXChem @PCCP @ChemPhysChem On the other hand, PS was deposited on the AM60 alloy, however, the contact angle values recorded for the coating classified the surface as hydrophilic, our interest was to have a hydrophobic surface offering better corrosion resistance.

The ZrO2 didn’t react with the substrate and a good dispersion of the hybrid material was obtained, compared to other MOx, for example, TiO2, which had a reaction with the substrate that did not allow an adequate dispersion of the material.
