In this case, the reduction of the contact angle was associated with the hydroxyl groups of Zr-OH and Si-OH present in the hybrid coating, due to their incomplete condensation.

The ZrO2 didn’t react with the substrate and a good dispersion of the hybrid material was obtained, compared to other MOx, for example, TiO2, which had a reaction with the substrate that did not allow an adequate dispersion of the material.
