No. 1123 Five Star - Silk & Steel. A Symphonic Symphony of Sensational Sounds! This album is like a smooth, silk rollercoaster ride through a jungle of funky bass lines! Prepare to be whisked away on a journey of sonic bliss with the mesmerizing masterpiece that is Silk & Steel
@TherealNihal how refreshing to hear a balanced and thought provoking discussion on race, religion and prejudice. Not everything in life is black and white. Could listen to this chap all day long!
@BBC6Music Some Velvet Morning. Thought it was a Slowdive original for some time! Lee Hazelwood/Nancy apparently. Good Primal scream cover too although love the earlier Slowdive version!
No. 1122 The Mock Turtles - Turtle Soup (1990). Watching This Time on Friday and got thinking about Steve’s brother Martin who sadly lost his son recently. A nice example of 90s indie pop this. Can you dig it still a classic.
No. 1121 Pulp - We Love Life (2001). The band sound so relaxed and at ease on this album. Not as commercially successful as their previous three releases but some great tracks. The Trees!
No. 1117 Self Esteem - Compliments Please (2019). Been listening to her latest release ‘I do this all the time’ on 6music. Like the chilled out vibe to this album. Going to go far I reckon!
No. 1115 Billy Fury - The Sound of Fury (1960). Heard a few tracks on Gid Coe and thought I ought to give it a listen. Britain’s first full time rock and roller!
No. 1114 The Clint Boon Experience - The Compact Guide to Pop Music and Space Travel (1999). Absolutely love this album but only just discovered it after 20+ years! Boon’s distinctive Hammond sound overlaid with some searing vocals reminiscent of Marc Almond! Brilliant!
No. 1113 Paul Weller - Fat Pop (Volume 1) (2021). Weller has certainly hit a bit of a purple patch of late. Lyrically it’s clearly very personal but I do miss his more socially conscious songs from his younger years. Clearly mellowing in his old age!
No. 1111 Dry Cleaning - New Long Leg (2021). Impressed with this lot when I saw them on Later. Reminded me a little bit of Salad (very underrated band!).
