Last week, the Carney government launched its latest attack on free speech online. They call it stopping “harmful” content. I call it censorship.

Bill C-34 creates a new bureaucracy: the Digital Safety Commission of Canada. Its job will be to police what you say and read online.

Under the guise of “protecting children,” this bill forces social media platforms and AI companies to mitigate exposure to "hate speech.”

A “hate speech ” is a “content that expresses detestation or vilification” of an individual or group of individuals based on prohibited grounds of discrimination.

But, courts have always required that "hatred" be extreme to be a crime. This new definition does not include the term "extreme," contrary to case law.

The government therefore broadens the definition of "hatred.”

Furthermore, the concept of "hate" will no longer be decided by judges. This decision will be made by unelected bureaucrats and scared tech employees facing $10 million fines.

Social media companies and AI companies concerned about facing fines will likely err on the side of censoring more expression by blocking it or filtering it out.

Most shockingly, the bill would censor the output of artificial intelligence like ChatGPT to ensure they don’t give “harmful” answers on sensitive topics.

This will result in AI that refuse to give honest answers on unpopular viewpoints. And a sanitized internet where people cannot have difficult conversations and debates on subjects not politically correct, like it happened during the COVID hysteria.

To keep kids under 16 off social media, the bill would force platforms to verify your age. This could involve requiring all adults to present a driver's license to create an account.

Let me be clear: the People’s Party of Canada will always support protecting children from real harm.

But “safety” does not mean censorship. This is not a child safety bill. It is a bill of control and censorship.

A free and democratic society protects speech that is distasteful, unpopular, or contrary to the mainstream. Without that, democracy dies.

We will not trade liberty for the illusion of safety. We will not let Ottawa become the online speech police.

Iran-backed Hezbollah, a terror army inside Lebanon, has fired over 1,000 rockets at northern Israel despite the April 2026 ceasefire. It is a terror group that Lebanon, despite repeated promises and UN resolutions, does not control and cannot control. No other nation would accept this or be told to just take it. Israel responded by striking the terror organization. Then Iran launched 11 ballistic missiles directly at Israel, massively violating the ceasefire with the U.S. and Israel. Yet somehow Israel is the one constantly told to show restraint.

Happy Pride month, y’all!

If you aren’t familiar with Pride, it is simply a declaration and celebration of the dignity, equality, and brilliance of LGBTQ+ folks.

In the church world, celebrating Pride Month can be controversial, but I really don’t think it should be. Declaring the equality of all people and lifting up the unique ways we all embody God’s image shouldn’t be controversial at all. But for me, Pride isn’t only about broad support of the LGBTQ+ community. Pride is also about my friends—many of whom are a part of our church family at Restore. It’s about people I deeply love who have been severely harmed at the hands of Christians and churches.

You see, my friends have stories. Stories that some of you wouldn’t believe. Stories of being condemned to hell, being called “abominations,” being disowned by their families, attempting suicide, and even tortured and abused through conversion therapy attempts. LGBTQ+ exclusion and marginalization has caused immeasurable harm to queer folks, but it has also really messed up the church. Because when we exclude people God told us to include, we miss out on the gifts and talents they bring. We miss out on the unique ways in which they bear God’s image and express the fruit of the Spirit.

I can tell you firsthand just how much more Christlike love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control our community embodies because of the LGBTQ+ folks who pastor, preach, and lead at our church. I am so grateful to lead alongside them ❤️🏳️‍🌈

I was in church once and the boy next to me, about 9 or 10, was just absolutely out of control. Single mom couldn't control him.

The boy was loud, interrupting the service, insulting to his mother, and absolutely refused to obey her gentle pleading.

He kept rolling around on the floor and knocking into me. I didn't say anything, but I was growing increasingly annoyed. We were in the back and this kid was damn near throwing a tantrum, just refusing to sit in his chair and instead laying underneath his seat, clinging to its legs while kicking.

Eventually, a father carrying his infant daughter was trying to walk through the aisle and the boy wouldn't move.

At that point, I had had enough. I yanked the chair off of the boy, set it down to the side, stared straight into his eyes, and gave him a direct order: "Stand up right now, get out of the aisle, and listen to your mother."

Kid was stunned. You could tell no one had ever spoken to him with that kind of directness and authority. He immediately obeyed without making a peep. Kept quiet for the rest of the service, too.

This is why discipline is important. The son had zero fear or respect of his mother. That's why he was acting like a brat in public to the detriment of everyone around him.

A few good spankings from a father would have put paid to that nonsense and brought happiness of the boy, his mother, and society at large.

Gentle parenting only works if there is a strong foundation of authority and respect from child to parent.

This is absolutely disgraceful. A mother in Sechelt speaks up against a forced political ritual in her daughter’s school, gives fair warning, keeps it short, and sits down quietly and the principal responds by calling child protection services on her family? Then bans her from school grounds? Then lets the drama teacher out her daughter to the class, sparking bullying that forced the kids out of school?

This is authoritarian bullying dressed up as “reconciliation.” The Ministry of Children and Family Development showed up, interviewed the kids, and immediately closed the file because there was nothing wrong. The only “threat” here was a parent who refused to bow to ideological nonsense.

This is what the NDP’s capture of our schools has produced: principals acting like thought police, child services being weaponized against dissenting families, and kids caught in the crossfire. Land acknowledgements have become a compulsory loyalty test that does zero for Indigenous people but everything to divide us and punish anyone who questions it.

Enough is enough.

Our schools are for teaching, not indoctrination. Parents have the right to push back without the state coming after their children. This kind of abuse of power is exactly why British Columbians are fed up and why we need real change.
