Media Release | Cowards deny Australians a vote on immigration
Senators terrified of giving Australians a voice have voted down legislation which would enable a national plebiscite on future immigration levels.
One Nation leader Senator Pauline Hanson said the vote demonstrated most of the Senate was completely out of step with the Australian people they served.
“Last year’s referendum showed the elites of this nation are out of touch with the Australian people,” Senator Hanson said. “Today’s vote in the Senate on my immigration plebiscite bill has demonstrated this fact again.
“The Liberals said the question was ‘too complex’ to put to the people. This obvious contempt for the intelligence of the Australian electorate is disgusting. Last year’s referendum showed the majority of Australians get it right when they’re given the opportunity, and that issue wasn’t considered too complex to put to them.
“Labor just said how dare Pauline Hanson even raise this issue, and then spoke about the past in their refusal to face the present crises for which they are responsible. As usual, they went down the same worn down path of racism accusations, when in fact this is just asking for Australians to be given a say about the numbers.
“The major parties, the Greens, Jacqui Lambie and David Pocock are absolutely terrified of what they know Australians would say in a compulsory national vote on immigration levels. Poll after poll after poll shows that whenever we’re asked, the majority of Australians want lower immigration. Two recent polls in December last year put this figure at more than 60%.
“They’re not just ignoring the opinion polls. They’re ignoring the growing chorus against high immigration from economic commentators. They’re ignoring the huge numbers of people lining up to inspect a single property, desperate to secure a rental. They’re ignoring the growing congestion in our cities. They’re ignoring the families struggling to find the money to pay skyrocketing rents amid our cost of living crisis. They’re ignoring the growing cities of tents, swags and cars as more Australians fall into homelessness and despair.
“It’s no wonder they’re running scared. Australians are struggling, desperate and angry. More than 125,000 new arrivals – more than the population of Ballarat and almost that of Darwin – came to Australian in January this year. A single month.
“One Nation has always championed lower immigration in solidarity with the majority of Australians. On their behalf I am demanding a halt on immigration, and for the government to put the Australian people first.”

Media Release | Closing treaty path essential after Queensland's voice rejection
Queensland’s overwhelming rejection of the voice to Parliament has put the state’s major parties on notice to abandon path to treaty legislation.
One Nation leader Senator Pauline Hanson said Queensland’s rejection of the voice – with the highest ‘no’ vote of any jurisdiction in Australia – had also been a rejection of indigenous treaties and reparations.
“Many Queenslanders understood the voice was only the beginning, that it was the first step towards a treaty and the reparations that would inevitably be imposed on taxpayers,” Senator Hanson said.
“They would be very disappointed the Palasczcuk Labor government and Crisafulli LNP opposition intend to persevere with a treaty after more than two-thirds of the state rejected this approach at the referendum.
“The major parties are completely out of touch with the people of Queensland. Crime, housing, public health and the rising cost of living are the issues affecting Queenslanders every single day and these should be our priorities. They are immediate and ongoing problems which don’t discriminate between indigenous and non-indigenous Queenslanders.
“The Premier has acknowledged Australians weren’t prepared to support the voice, treaty and truth-telling process demanded in the Uluru Statement. She should follow through by abandoning her racially divisive path to treaty legislation. She should take a page out of the book of One Nation MLC Sarah Game in South Australia, who is introducing legislation to repeal that state’s indigenous voice to Parliament following the 64% ‘no’ vote in SA.
“One Nation is planning to run candidates in every seat at next year’s Queensland election, and if we gain the balance of power I guarantee the incoming government will achieve nothing unless it repeals the path to treaty legislation. A vote for One Nation will be a vote for genuine, absolute equality in Queensland.
“I have been advocating for genuine equality in Australia my entire career, pointing out disparities in taxpayer support and the special privileges afforded indigenous Australians, and I’m drawing a line here – One Nation will never support a treaty. Treaties are made between nations, not states and their own citizens.
“Conservative Queenslanders in particular will be furious with David Crisafulli’s failure to represent their views about the path to treaty law. It’s not a path to unity or harmony. It’s a path to perpetual grievance, victimhood/identity politics and billions of dollars coming from the pockets of Queensland taxpayers.
“The LNP leader is basically having an each-way bet on this horse, supporting a treaty but not reparations. The problem with this is they’re not separate; they’re inextricably linked, and I’d like to see the Opposition leader explain how he can have one without the other. What is a treaty about if not about financial settlements and reparations?
“At least these Queenslanders can take comfort that One Nation has from the beginning taken a principled stand against this form of legislated, institutional racism. One Nation opposes the introduction of racial inequality in Queensland law. I have always fought for equality among Australians regardless of race, gender, religion or origin.
“The people of Queensland have spoken and sent a strong message to Anastacia Palasczcuk and David Crisafulli: their path to treaty policy does not have the support of the people.”
