why did the government name grand canyon cliffs after egyptian gods in 1882, report a giant underground city inside them in 1909, and then make it illegal for regular people to go near the caves.

Everyone knows the grand canyon is a national park, but until tonight i never actually looked into why huge chunks of the canyon walls are completely off limits to the public.

Back in 1882 government surveyors mapped a deep section of the canyon and officially named the peaks isis temple, osiris temple, tower of set, and cheops pyramid on federal maps and then 27 years later in april 1909, the arizona gazette ran a front page story about a smithsonian expedition that climbed 1,480 feet up the canyon wall and walked into a massive man made underground city carved into the rock with rooms built to hold 50,000 people, copper weapons, hieroglyphs, and mummies.

Days after the newspaper printed it, the smithsonian suddenly claimed they lost every record of the expedition, the government welded iron grates over the cave entrances, and to this day armed rangers will arrest anyone caught hiking or flying a drone near the caves under isis temple.

I was digging into why federal surveyors named american desert cliffs after egypt 27 years before that newspaper leak and i found this article someone wrote connecting the 1909 smithsonian cover up to why those sectors are still exempt from public information laws today. ngl the second half of the article about what that underground city was actually built to survive and why showing the public proof of the last reset would destroy the whole modern financial system.

what do you guys think the smithsonian actually pulled out of those caves before they welded them shut? here is the article i was reading if anyone wants to check out all the info.
