I constantly talk to people believing the NORTH of Vietnam is just “Bureaucratic” not so “Business oriented”. When in reality this is not true.
Complex high end manufacturing happens in the NORTH. We are not talking about garments, consumer goods. It’s electronics, smartphones, components, semiconductors, computers, optical products.
Samsung’s largest global smartphone, components factory is in Bac Ninh (1 hour from Hanoi). It has created a complete supply chain in the area for high value electronics. Similar to Shenzhen/Guangdong Province in China. Foxconn, Amkor, LG Display, Canon, Goertek, Pegatron, Hana all contributing to this (To name a few).
Underrated North.
Yunnan is a great province in China.
Kunming is its capital they call it "Eternal Spring" (It gets very coold for my liking in winter though).
There is a lot of diversity in the region. In total, there are 55 minority groups in the whole country, and 25 of them are in Yunnan. Each city you visit (Dali, Lijiang, Xishuangbanna, Pu er, Shangrila, etc...) has their own cuisine, culture, weather.
They have big production and exports of flowers, fruits, WILD mushrooms and even wasabi!
Japanese love to import their wild Matsutake. You can find 40% of all wild mushrooms species here.
They have good quality Porcini, Chanterelle, Morel, Truffles, anything you look for...
@AleEnRuta Thank you! I noticed you spent a considerable amount of time in Yunnan. For me, Yunnan was actually the last of China’s 34 provincial-level regions that I visited, so you definitely know it even better than I do😊
I feel since two years ago everything is moving faster in the city (My first time in Hanoi was on 2012).
The Metro is a good example.
The first operational metro line is Line2A. It took 10 years to finish it (2011 to 2021). When opening target was planned for Max 5.
Back then it was expected for every project to take years.
People will tell you "Its normal"
Since 2024 the sensation is different. Everyone realizes now is more about "Doing" less talking. Unthinkable to reclaim public sidewalks? Yea its possible.
Today Hanoi begins construction of five urban metro lines.
Looking forward to 2030.
"These metro lines are part of the capital city's plan to build 18 metro lines with a total length of 979 kilometers through 2030".

A couple of days ago I highlighted this area in HCMC.
Now local government is approving auction of 8 plots of land in "Thu Thiem" for development.
“It’s a strategic move by HCMC to push forward the development of Thu Thiem as the NEW financial and commercial heart of the city”.
A new Lujiazui?
