What does democracy mean to you?
As Nigeria 🇳🇬 marks Democracy Day, we invite citizens to join us for a special edition of Road to 2027:
Democracy, By the People: What Democracy Means to Nigerians Today ✊🏼
Too often, conversations about democracy focus on elections, institutions, and political actors. But democracy is also about everyday experiences, having a voice, participating in public life, holding leaders accountable, and shaping the future of our communities.
This conversation will explore how Nigerians understand democracy today, what concerns us about its current state, what gives us hope, and the role citizens—especially young people, play in strengthening it.
Join Dengiyefa Angalapu @Greatdengis and Mairo Ibrahim @mairothewriter, moderated by Jemimah Inyangudo @bigbabyjaey, as we reflect on the promises, challenges, and future of Nigerian democracy.

🚨 NEW BLOG POST
Operation Safe Corridor has become one of Nigeria’s most prominent non-kinetic approaches to countering violent extremism, providing a pathway for the rehabilitation and reintegration of former insurgents in the Northeast.
Yet an important question remains:
Where are the women?
In Why Do Nigeria Deradicalisation Programs Forget Women and Can Operation Safe Corridor Change This?, Peter Oyinmiebi examines a critical gender gap within Nigeria’s peacebuilding and deradicalisation efforts.
While women have been deeply affected by the insurgency, as victims, survivors, and, in some cases, participants in conflict, they remain largely absent from rehabilitation and reintegration programmes. The article explores the socio-cultural, religious, and institutional factors behind this exclusion and proposes practical pathways for making deradicalisation programmes more gender-inclusive.
As Nigeria continues to invest in sustainable peacebuilding, ensuring that women are not left behind is not simply a matter of representation, it is essential to long-term stability, community recovery, and preventing future cycles of violence.

VIDEO: Listen to Professor Jibrin Ibrahim, one of Africa’s leading political economists and the Chairman of the @PremiumTimesng Editorial Board, share his views on President Tinubu, the 2027 elections, and the future of democracy in Nigeria.
As the world 🌍 grows more connected, the risks within our information spaces are growing too.
The same digital ecosystems that have transformed communication, access, and opportunity have also created new vulnerabilities, where misinformation, disinformation, and hate speech can deepen division, distort truth, and threaten social cohesion. 🗣️
Through the Strengthening Information Literacy & Social Cohesion (STILASC) project, CDD–West Africa, in partnership with SPRiNG, has worked across Benue, Plateau, Katsina, and Kaduna States to strengthen community resilience, promote information literacy, and support more peaceful coexistence.
This documentary offers a powerful look at both the progress made and the urgent work that remains in building credible, community-led responses to harmful narratives in Nigeria’s evolving information ecosystem.
