Our 5th grade scientists at McCall Elementary were hard at work today in Mrs. Garcia’s class dissecting owl pellets purchased through our AEF grant for food webs!
Students carefully sorted bones, compared structures to a bone identification chart, and used their observations to identify what owls eat and how organisms are connected within a food web. This is exactly what science should look like: hands-on, curious, focused, and full of discovery.
Proud of Mrs. Garcia and her students for thinking like scientists, working carefully, and bringing learning to life. Thank you to AEF for helping provide experiences that make science meaningful for students. Great things are happening in science at McCall!

Aledo High School Seniors from Anatomy & Physiology leading freshman students from biology through their fetal pig dissections. The seniors were showing them how to pin, identify, & connect the anatomy of the organ to its physiology. #growinggreatness #bearcatscience #aledoisd #allinaledo
Mrs. Roberson’s 9th grade Biology students at Aledo DNG are bringing anatomy and physiology to life this week through fetal pig dissections! Students are investigating how animal body systems work together and seeing science beyond the textbook.

Coder Elementary 5th grade Science students did a little mini project where the students had to create their own bird species. The students were studying the structures of plants and animals and what function they play in their survival in their environment.
Mrs. King took some of them and AI generated them coming to life!

Biology teachers, I’m genuinely excited to share this.
We created an interactive Biology EOC Review experience that was built for the State of Texas, but its value reaches far beyond one state because it covers the big ideas and core content found across biology courses everywhere.
This is much more than a review packet or a collection of practice questions. It is a full learning experience designed to help students revisit biology in a way that feels purposeful, engaging, and manageable.
Students can begin with learn cards organized by major biology strands and concepts. These help break down content into clear, approachable chunks so students are not overwhelmed by everything at once. Built into the experience are vocabulary supports that help students strengthen academic language while they review, which is especially helpful for students who know more than they can always explain.
The resource also includes 40 to 50 practice questions and mirrored DOK complexity aligned to the rigor students see on state assessments. That means students are not just reviewing content at a surface level. They are working through questions and tasks that reflect the level of thinking, analysis, and application they will actually be expected to do.
From there, students can move into Clinical Analysis modules for deeper, case-based thinking and then into Project Lazarus, a story-driven investigation that brings biology content to life in a creative and memorable way. Together, those pieces give students opportunities to apply their understanding, make connections across concepts, strengthen scientific reasoning, and build confidence as they review.
What I love most about this resource is that it supports both teachers and students. It gives teachers a structured, content-rich tool they can use for intervention, review days, small groups, bootcamps, enrichment, or whole-class test prep. At the same time, it gives students a more supportive path through biology content, one that feels rigorous without feeling discouraging.
Even though it was designed with Texas Biology EOC alignment in mind, the content is broad enough to support biology teachers in any state.
You can explore it here:

If you have been looking for a biology review resource that feels thoughtful, challenging, student-centered, and full of meaningful supports, this is exactly the kind of tool that can make a difference.

Meet Dr. Gene-ius
I am Dr. Gene-ius, an interactive AI tutor trained on the Texas Biology TEKS (2025), STAAR released questions, and OpenStax Biology 2e. My goal is to help students learn, review, and apply biology concepts through engaging explanations, guided questioning, and feedback aligned with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS).

Spent some time at Aledo Middle School today with Robin Newkirk and her 7th grade Science class. Learning about chemical reactions, Sodium Bicarbonate, bath bombs...oh MY! Such a great time and a CER to boot! Robin, you are amazing and in the Power Zone! #Aledoisd #aledoisdscience #growinggreatness #ScienceTheAledoWay #AllinAledo
At Aledo ISD, we believe every student deserves access to high-quality science learning that meets them where they are and pushes them forward. Our 8th grade science team is differentiating instruction so all learners—emerging scientists, advanced problem-solvers, hands-on explorers, and everyone in between—can thrive.
We’re blending engaging phenomena, real-world investigations, and multiple entry points into every unit. Lessons are designed with tiered supports, scaffolded vocabulary, and flexible grouping so that every student can access complex content, build skills, and grow their confidence as scientists.
From lab-based inquiry to data analysis challenges, students experience science in ways that honor their strengths and stretch their thinking. This isn’t just differentiation—it’s creating a science classroom where all means all.
