Actor-singer JK Labajo has been revealed as the lead star of “Mono No Aware,” director BC Amparado’s official entry to the 2026 edition of the Puregold CinePanalo Film Festival 2026.

Joining Labajo in the cast are veteran actors Perry Dizon and Paolo O’Hara, with acclaimed Japanese actress Momoko Kobayashi also set to appear in the film.

The production recently completed its cast look test, giving the team an early glimpse of the chemistry among the actors ahead of principal photography, which is scheduled to begin in Japan next week.

“The look test for Mono no Aware went exceptionally well. The chemistry among the cast was undeniable, and from the moment they interacted, the characters felt genuinely alive,” Amparado said.

“The atmosphere throughout was fun, relaxed, and full of energy,” he added.

According to the director, Labajo, O’Hara, and Dizon immediately brought their characters to life during the sessions.

“Perry, Paolo, and JK proved to be talented performers who were also easy to collaborate with. They were approachable, engaged, and a pleasure to work with, making the process both productive and enjoyable,” Amparado shared.

In the film, Labajo and O’Hara portray Filipino migrant workers employed by a specialty cleaning company in Japan, while Dizon takes on the role of a Filipino widower who has spent nearly his entire life in the country.

“Seeing the actors embody these characters during the look test gave an early glimpse of the warmth, humor, and emotional depth at the heart of the story,” the filmmaker said.

Amparado also confirmed that preparations for the overseas shoot are progressing smoothly as the team gears up for production in Japan. A separate look test is also scheduled for the film’s Japanese cast, including Kobayashi.

“The team is set to begin shooting in Japan soon, and preparations are moving forward smoothly,” he said. “A separate look test is also scheduled with the Japanese cast, including acclaimed actress Momoko Kobayashi, as the production continues to bring the world of Mono no Aware to life.”

Named after the Japanese concept that refers to an awareness of the impermanence of things and a gentle appreciation of life’s fleeting beauty, “Mono No Aware” is among the highly anticipated entries in next year’s Puregold CinePanalo Film Festival.
