We talk a lot about how important it is to set up self-verification loops. Especially in the age of powerful models that can run for long periods of time, self-verification is a key ingredient that enables the model to run for much longer, delivering a result that is closer to what you intended, so you can do more without having to constantly check in on Claude as it works.
@delba_oliveira gives a great breakdown of what that looks like and why it matters

I am pragmatic. The opposite of pragmatism is being driven by ideology. Ideology is helpful when creating something new, but it tends to fail in the long run. This applies to both software design and real life. Let me show some examples. /1

Published a new blog post on explaining the basics of disaggregated storage systems.
The architecture is relatively new considering the rich history of databases, but pivotal enough to be adopted by many databases like Amazon Aurora, Neon, Snowflake, etc.
This is true - Rust is being productively used all across the industry. For example, it's the default choice for building new systems code at AWS, and is already running critical data planes (like S3, Lambda, and many others).

If you want to grow as a dev, hone your bullshit detector. If you hear a technical argument that sounds wishy-washy, don't accept it. Go figure out what the real deal is. You don't need to be rude about it. Just do it for yourself. Repeat for 10yrs and you'll be in a good spot.
Why are folks obsessed with tail latency? Isn't 9Xth percentile all that matters?
Basically: service-oriented architectures/microservices plus cloud services (which are both useful!) mean that even small fluctuations in latency can be greatly amplified.
